  1. It's not subjective at all, there is usually a best (or maybe a couple) emulator for each system. On many cases you'll need more than one emulator to play most of the games though, especially on later systems.

Nice work djvj, a few errors I spotted: you added Gamecube and Wii under Desmune and not Dolphin. Gambatte also emulates GB, Makaron also emulates DC, Pheonix should be Phoenix, you can add at least Atari 7800 and Atari 2600 to MESS, WinApe also emulates CPC. WHDLoader should be WinUAELoader. Why do you have cdiemu listed as WcdiEmu?

That list can be made much larger, but I think you should focus on what you currently have modules for and move from there.

    Thanks brolly.

cdiemu exe is actually called wcdiemu.exe, so that's where I got it from. I'll change it and remove the w.

List is updated with many emus I believe are preferred (I know brolly will give me more). Thanks for you suggestions mesk, the ones I am unsure of are Nintendo and Sega ones. I only marked the ones I believe are the best.

  2. Stay on topic please, if you have any issues, make your own thread. Discussions here should revolve around updating the list or correcting mistakes, that's it.

I'm among the crowd that thinks there usually is a preferred emu. There will always be a grey area, like psx, but generally one stands out.

  3. Just converted my modules folder to the new emu-based HL2 and created a listing so I know what emu does what systems. I know this list is not complete, but it matches what I had modules for. I know this is something a few have asked for over the years, so it may help some of you who come across it:

    List moved to:

If anyone wants to help complete it, please post below.

  4. So since we want different things, here are some suggestions:

    • Add both publisher and developer xml tags (requires new feature in HS)
    • Add your own tags, choose where to display them (requires new feature in HS)
    • Insert both in manufacturer-tag: <manufacturer>Bitmap Brothers/Image works</manufacturer>
    • Make two separate databases

To start with, just add publisher, since thats also easiest to find, but make sure to be consistent and don't mix.

I like the idea for support for both in the future, and to change the tag names. I think I realize why this tag has some controversy. A manufacturer/developer are people who make things. To put a publisher in a tag labeled manufacturer is backwards. Like TV's for example, there are only a few manufacturers who make panels, but there are many name brands out there that didn't actually make the set, just basically stamped their name on it.

  5. I think both manufacturere/developer tags would be great, somewhere down the line. But it's not needed right now and I don't really care in the end what name is on there. As long as "something" is there is what matters.

Offtopic - those HL tools sound rather interesting. I am doing a lot of db work for new systems by hand. Any way I can get access to get some new/updated dbs up there?

  6. I also prefer developer over publisher. Usually the publisher has nothing to do with the creating of the game, they just stamped their name on it. It's more interesting to see who actually made the game, whether it was a no-name company or a big name.

  7. Its big but its just one system, take your time, theres no rush. I just did gba by myself whcih was 1100 games and it only took about 8 hours to do.

But the Year/Manufacturer/Genre are what take a long time, you cannot simply do that in one days work.
