Announcing HyperPin Digital Pinball Frontend
BadBoyBill replied to BadBoyBill's topic in Content and Support
If all you have to do is move some dmd's around (1 or 2 days work) then I say were in pretty good shape, compared to all the work people had to do to create tables(months/years of work), creating the pinball simulators (years of work), making the FE (months of work), redrawing artwork(months of work). I say if people really want to use it they will put in just a small amount of their own work to get it the way they want. -

Yes you can swtich between FP and VP via the genre menu, HyperPin starts off the wheel with "All Games" which will mix the FP and VP lists together to make one big wheel. Then you can choose genres from there. But you can choose your starting genre. We added this feature yesterday. You can start out in either "All Games" , "Future Pinball" , "Visual Pinball" or "Favorites. I think that alot of people will want to start off in the "Favorites" Genre, this is because you can pick the cleanest tables to show off when HP starts. Your favorites can have FP and VP games mixed up on one clean wheel. Then if you want to go and see all the rest of the tables, simply go to the genre menu and select "All Games" and you will be in the full wheel. I will be picking my favorite tables and having HP start with those. Whats good about the genre system that unlike HyperSpin, theres only 2 xml files that you'll ever deal with. A FP one and a VP one. The genres are already built into those xml files. So there will not be genre xml's like HS. This makes it more manageable but loses the benefit that HS has of custom genre's. But we have just about all the genre's covered already in our official lists. I like this way better. Im sure brycej or unclewilly can chime in on how they feel this system works for them. -

Im trying to aim for next weekend to release, were doing lots of release artwork right now and are progressing at a steady rate. It does support visual pinball, I found it quite easy to setup. I thought it would be hard but it was pretty straight forward. The backglasses will be the frontend displaying for VP I think. Since most games I think dont even really use a backglass in VP. But you can move the dmd to the backglass. -

Maybe it woud be a good point to have the videos as a seperate download and only have screenshots in the install. -

Yes it will be big, maybe 150 - 200 meg. This is mainly due to the video. -

You can get the manual for HyperPin in a couple threads below this one , it will show you how to set your tables up for this view in the Future Pinball section, it will also show you how to set up Visual Pinball tables also. -

Hey Chris, thanks for the compliments, Im sure you will find this much better than the FP layout in HS and dual monitor friendly which I know that was a gripe before. We sure wouldnt mind the promotion once we release the software. Uncle Willy and I are building the help file now and should be ready soon for beta. I will try to get you something before that so you can play with it. Thanks. -

More progress: About finished up the video settings today: Depending on the orientation and size of your backglass monitor, you have many options. 4:3 horizontal monitor with full sized backglass image 16:9 horizonatal monitor with full sized backglass image alternatively you can adjust the specific size and rotation of the backglass image. This allows for: 4:3 vertical monitor where the image can be smaller on the upper portion of the monitor and you can have a dmd display through like on a regular pinball cab. This would be similar to the Ultrapin setup incase you go that route, this is what Im doing on mine. Same for 16:9, but that would be uncommon I think. Its pretty much fully customizable so no matter what size montior, orientation you can have the images be exactly the size you need to suit your backbox setup, whether you want to do full sized images or have em smaller to allow for dmd's in the exact size you need. I also made it adjustable so the "Free Play" / "Press Start" can be disabled or show whatever text you want instead of those two. Also you can change the color. -

Ya you can those are just defaults, I was trying to get them the same as FP's default buttons. But of course they can be changed. -

A little progress today. I added ability to set the app quality, also think the program initially will mainly work if you have your playfield as the primary monitor. You can flip everything if you like so if you can have your monitor orientated 90 or 270 (flippers on the right side or left side of the monitor when playing games). The backglass can be enabled or disabled all together in case you dont want to use a second monitor. If the program is to demanding for video on your PC then you can optionally use screenshots instead of playfield video which will vastly improve performance but obviously isnt as cool. We decided that the backglass will all be images since it seems 50/50 on whether or not the backglass even does anything in attract mode for games. So they will all just be static which looks fine. This will save Circo(emumovies) time on having to make 2 videos for each game anyways. I finished the keyboard settings today and your defaults will be left shift or right shift to navigate the wheel. And "z" and "/" for letter jumping. Enter starts a game and Escape exits the FE (can be optionally turned off). Im still undecided on VP support. What I mean by VP support means more than just being able to play VP but whether or not we will make videos and wheel images etc.. If I do add VP support you will have 3 options, show only FP tables, show only VP tables or merge the lists into one big list showing both FP and VP tables. You would maintain two lists but both can be merged by HP. -

The last couple weeks I was keeping my eyes peeled on ebay for a dead or gutted cab, believe it or not they are not to easy to find. First I told myself I wanted something more modern at least a cab that used dot matrix displays so that I can use a speaker grill but then I lowered my expectations some after seing what little for sale there was on ebay. I think there was one machine I saw and it didnt even have the grill and was not worthed in my opinion. Then I thought Ok I can deal with an older cab, 60's 70's, and work with that , but just finding a cab period was slim pickings, I mean I think I only saw 2 on ebay total that were in thrashed shape and they wanted at least 80 bux or more and like 200+ to crate and ship. I was lookin at least 300 dollars. And almost did it until I found the goole rec.pinball group. From what Im told this is where alot of pinball enthusiasts hang out from all over the world. Lots of members including ex employess of wiliams, stern, etc.. lots of knowelegable people and buying, selling and trading going on. From there I met mark who gave me for free the Dr. Who cab. I just had to come get it and it was only an hour drive from my house to his shop. I recomenend that if anyone wants a gutted cab to consider posting a request there. It might or might not come but be patient and stay enthusiatic and Im sure you'll find what your looking for. Remember this is good for building a full size but I bet from what Ive seen so far and due to prices of tv's and monitors, Im guessing most people are going to opt for a "minipin" cab. -

Forgot to add special thanks also: Billpa for creating the HP logo and Intro video which is awesome, and Uncle Willy for helping me on the ins and outs of FP and providing me with already modifed tables and artworks. He was a great help. -

Ya I can get the dimensions, Im not actually using the machine, but it didnt come with any electronics and is in poor shape, but theres enough for me to scavenge like the backbox mounts and hinges, and overall just to see how a pinball is put together and use the panelss as templates to make brand new ones. Its going to be extremely helpful for me to have this on hand as im putting a new one together. Plus my machine will have to be at least a few inches wider to fit the monitor. I wont be building this out of mdf but use plywood instead, even out of plywood its pretty heavy. -

Ya Im not sure what route Im gonna do, I thought the tv might get in the way of the plunger, but we'll see, the big shoot button doesnt bother me much, alot of newer games have that anyway. Or I might do both if I have room. -

The artwork will be downloadable when I release it. The movies will have to be downloaded via emumovies.
