irondragoon Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 It's an arcade game. The year was 1995ish. I think there was a Killer Instinct machine that was newer at the arcade. I'm pretty sure this isn't my imagination... I remember a game one of my friends always wanted me to play with him. It seemed there was 4 machines of the same type setup in a quad. I think you had to make a username and password so you could replay the next time you were at the arcade. It was a first person shooter type game. As you killed quotas of other players or enemies you would gain rank at the end of the match. I think the rank would persist the next time you came back. I don't recall using a gun. I seem to remember an 8 way joystick control. The graphics were cartoonier. We were shooting enemies or other players in a warehouse type environment. When I played it, my friend was playing in the game with me but at a different machine. I don't remember if it was a network game or if the multiplayer was like some racing games. I'm pretty sure he killed me a couple times. The first rank was "Grunt" if that helps. Setup Multiple Systems on One wheel

irondragoon Posted April 4, 2013 Author Posted April 4, 2013 I think this is the one although it seems too new but my memory of it is flaky at best. I can't find it online - did this game have ranks? Setup Multiple Systems on One wheel
Kevinlives Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 I'm not sure, but in the discussion in the second link people mention a saveable progression system. More info: http://www.giantbomb.com/the-grid/3030-20756/ Unplayable in MAME currently. Shame since you've gotten me curious now.
irondragoon Posted April 5, 2013 Author Posted April 5, 2013 I'm pretty sure this is the one. If I could play it I would be able to confirm at the end of a match. I think I was rank three. My friend was up there because he played it religiously. The other game I'm bummed is unplayable is Cyber Troopers Virtual-On. That game ate a lot of my quarters. Setup Multiple Systems on One wheel
Kevinlives Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 The other game I'm bummed is unplayable is Cyber Troopers Virtual-On. Well, there's always the craptastic Saturn version. Also, they remade it and released it in Japan only for the PS2. It's on Sega Ages 2500 Series Vol. 31: Dennou Senki Virtual On.
jkonami Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 Hey, the Saturn version was decent and was the only game in town for a while. Sega AM2 always made good ports for the Saturn. I'm not sure but I think there might also be a Dreamcast version too.
evil eye Posted April 6, 2013 Posted April 6, 2013 I believe Cyber Troopers is in Naomi or Model 3. Not sure if it's playable though.
irondragoon Posted April 22, 2013 Author Posted April 22, 2013 A little update: This weekend I took a look at emulating this with Supermodel. I wanted the Oratorio Tangram version. The graphics don't render right. I ended up doing it for dreamcast with Nulldc. Its a pretty faithful port and runs awesome with beautiful graphics even at fullscreen with 1920x1080 res. This game is so much fun. It's weird without the tanksticks but plays fine with a gamepad. Setup Multiple Systems on One wheel
