Just wondering what is the cpu of choice to run Hyperspin in all its glory regardless of the emulators installed. I considered to run up to gamecube or wii but may fall back to N64 and keep it truly retro. Its for a cabinet in my garage and thats all it will be used for. I have various parts laying around including 2 GTX 460s and a 1000w PSU and 16gb ram.  I know its been asked 100's of times but need it to run the current version of Hyperspin. Thanks

Would this system from tigerdirect be appropriate?

Or should I start with this one

Hiya,

I don't think in this situation there is a big difference.  Neither of those systems will run dolphin without issues.  If you are considering keeping it retro, just go with the cheaper solution as it will have zero issues running Hyperspin or RocketLauncher.   It should also have zero issues with retorarch or any of it's cores.   Good luck

Overclocked g3258 (with a cheap overclock capable motherboard and a decent heatsink) is the best bang for bucks, really close to a core i5 clock per clock (most emulators uses 1 or 2 cores). Intel i3 are not that great for emulation as they cannot be overclocked (actually you can BUT it's a real mess and reaching the frequency of an unlocked cpu is basically impossible as you can't really push too much on bclk as we all did on LGA775's FSB).

Add a videocard to the list, intel's IGP sucks. One of those gtx460 should be ok, maybe with SLI you can play also recent windows titles BUT if you're going to keep your rig always on consider that those videocards needs a lot of watts while idling, modern videocards takes really few watts when not stressed. A gtx460 should needs 120W(idle)/280W(full load) while a 980TI needs "only" 15w/250W.

A motherboard with m.2 SSD support would be better, an SSD on m.2 is almost as fast as a 2xSSD in raid0.

I ordered the g3258 http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=9174237&utm_source=EML&utm_medium=transactional&utm_campaign=CANLET

I have never been into overclocking my cpus but this motherboard does all the work for you. I also got a Coolermaster TX3 cpu fan.  I am thinking about keping the side door of the tower open since it will be in a cabinet. I am also thinking of building a divider between the upper half with the LED tv to keep the area cooler. Also gonna put a 200mm case fan on either side of the arcade cabinet for air flow and cover them with some old waffle subwoofer grills
