Custom Transitions

I am trying to make a simple custom transition effect that just quickly fades to white before fading out into the next system's theme on the main menu. I am unable to find  a guide on creating custom transitions so I am trying to stumble through it on my own, but am having an issue.

In Adobe After Effects I have created a simple fade to white and out again by manipulating the opacity on a square that takes up the entire frame, and rendered it as an FLV with RGB + Alpha. When I play the FLV in VLC player it appears to function correctly. But when I use it as an override transition in Hyperspin, the fade animation goes to white, but instead of seeing the next background, the background stays black and the real background image for the system's theme never appears. It just stays black forever, though the rest of the system's theme graphics load.

Has anyone created a custom transition and ran into this problem, or can you point out the proper settings I need to make a transition file?

Thanks so much!

I made a lot of the original custom transitions that were initially released. The trick is each transition needs a cue point inserted where the transition needs to happen.

In After Effects, you add a marker to your timeline. Double click the marker and it will open the dialog box where you can name your flash cue point. I believe BBB was using "transition" as the name (no quotes) and I believe it is an event based cue point (that should be default anyhow). Then you send that to media encoder and make the FLV I can take a look this weekend but there should be something in the settings to include the cue point.

Just make sure your cue point is at the point in time where the entire screen is obscured because that is when HS will switch backgrounds.

Hope this helps. You can PM me if you have more questions.

Tried to PM you but it says you are unable to receive new messages.

So I put the marker named "transition" no quotes and now it displays a background after the fade, but it stays on the same background from the previous themes background, it doesn't transition properly to the next. So if I have three systems in a row, they all show the same background from the first system.

Thanks for helping!

I had a similar problem, if I am understanding correctly.

Go to HyperHQ and in each wheel select "reload backgrounds"

I had to add a time delay in HyperTheme to each of my Default themes' animations to compensate for the forced transition.

Originally I had only wanted it on the Main Menu and when you choose a wheel... not between every game.

Then the new Hyperspin1.4 came out and it's too fast so I ditched my custom transitions lol.

Setting the reload backgrounds causes a refresh when scrolling through every game in the system, and still does not fix the issue on the main menu. So I think this is different.

Sorry I've been away for so long my inbox is probably full. I'll see if I can pinpoint the problem this weekend. I'm sure we are missing one small detail.

Hey Billpa, any luck looking at how to properly trigger the background transitions? Still unable to PM you, so hopefully you see this.
