what rom paths you guys are using for shield tv pro

The primary Hyperspin folder should be named /Hyperspin.

It's EASIER if you put rom folder inside your Hyperspin folder so that way you don't need to use literal/full rom paths in your settings .ini files IF you choose to move your setup to internal, sdcard, or USB drive.

On Android M, things have changed and are kinda messed up.   Will be posting another update this week to fix another, related bug.

this is my rompath

rompath=/Hyperspin/Emulators/Super Nintendo Entertainment System/roms/ roms are in the roms folder does anything look off about it?

I'm fairly certain that path won't work.   /Hyperspin is likely write protected so I doubt you put it there.

In order to simplify moving Hyperspin between internal /sdcard, usbdrives, etc. the rompath CAN assume your rompath is inside your Hyperspin folder.

So, in this case, this should work for you:

rompath=Emulators/Super Nintendo Entertainment System/roms/

do I have to somehow put an emulator in a folder somewhere within hyperspin to work?

In order to use the abbreviated path I suggested above, that folder must be in the subdirectory of your Hyperspin folder.

This is not required.  You can use literal paths.   If you put your roms in /sdcard/roms/, you could also try /storage/emulated/0/ as another link/path for /sdcard/.

If my memory is correct, on Android L, the literal path for a USB drive is /storage/usbdrive1 (2 or 3)

For the upcoming Android M update, sdcards and usbdrives will be mapped to /storage/<USB ID>
