Controller setup questions

Hey guys got a couple questions for you, so my controller will be here next week so I will need to set the controls up soon.

My question is do I have to setup up the controls in the emulator? For example I use RetroArch for most of my systems, everything beside Dreamcast and PlayStation. Will I need to setup the controls there. Also, if I set up the controls in RetroArch do I also need to setup the controls in JoyToKey?

You can control everything from within the emulator (retroarch makes this especially simple). I make keymapper profiles for extra controls like save states and fast forward (some use them for exiting their emulators, but I just set that up in RocketLauncher). Keymappers are also useful for systems that don't provide conventional gamepad setup options, like flash games.

What controller did you decide on if I might ask?

I ended up getting the Xtension Two Player Control Board "Emulator Edition". I liked the size of it with the cabinet I am doing.

Let me know how that build comes along. I am interested in getting an Xtension Emulator Edition control board and want to know what you think of it and how it works with using Xpadder on something like Taito Type X games with controls that can't be changed.

No need to use xpadder. They use an ipac in it.

BTW those are overpriced IMO. They look much better in the pictures than in actual person. Not saying they are crap but just they aren't full high quality like the pictures make you think

Yeah you don't need xpadder basically works right out of the box. I also don't think it is overpriced, it is very good quality and feels great, I think if I ended up buying all the pieces to put my own controller together it would end up being the same amount if not more. It also looks way better then the tank stick. I have no regrets in buying it.

I like it a lot and recommend it if you're not wanting to build your own. It works great with Taito Type X as well I had to make a few adjustments but works perfectly.
