eezetee Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 While I know this isn't a Hyperspin problem because I can open the emulator directly and it's the same thing. However, I know there are many people here that use this emu. The problem i'm having is when I open the emulator, it basically goes from pause/running and is unmanageable. Meaning I cannot even open a ROM. It's almost like an IRQ/Interupt problem. Anyone seen anything like this before?
gigapig Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 Never had any problems with it, have you tried a reinstall or have you checked the settings which are stored in the registry? HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\spectaculator.com\Spectaculator\Settings I'm not sure if uninstalling deletes the registry as well.
eezetee Posted January 28, 2016 Author Posted January 28, 2016 I'll give that a go. I was thinking maybe it was a Windows 8.1 compatibility issue. Not exactly sure. Basically it's unsable in it's current state. BTW, Giga, when I posted this I immediately thought your response would be awesome and boom, there it is
gigapig Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 I'll give that a go. I was thinking maybe it was a Windows 8.1 compatibility issue. Not exactly sure. Basically it's unsable in it's current state. BTW, Giga, when I posted this I immediately thought your response would be awesome and boom, there it is Lol Thank you. Tested on Windows 10 and it's fine. Also make sure you are not pointing to "SpecStub.exe" instead of "Spectaculator.exe" but you would notice if you launched via RLUI.
eezetee Posted January 28, 2016 Author Posted January 28, 2016 Found my error. I had copied over a previous install and not done a fresh install. Version 8 works a treat. However, Giga, have you ever heard of keyboard mappings not sticking or being weird with xbox controllers? I set P1 up and then when I go to play bubble bobble, it moves to p2.
gigapig Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 How are yours set up? I normally have it set to use the Kempston joystick. Controls are a bit of a headache.
eezetee Posted January 29, 2016 Author Posted January 29, 2016 I've got them setup as Kempston joysticks but I'm seeing some strange things. EG. When a game loads, I can only use one Kempston joystick, the games ask what is the player 2 controls Or the button mappings seem to change, maybe because i'm using xbox 360 controllers. So my questions for the giga are 1) Do you use 1 or 2 Kempston joysticks? 2) Are use using xpadder to map your controllers to buttons. 3) Which type of controlls are you using - ipAC, xbox controllers Lastly, only a man of your stature would know, how many of the games in the set can be played purely by a joystick without a keyboard?
gigapig Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 Question 1. Just 1 Kempston. The Kempston is an interface and is the only interface that didn't map to the keyboard and was the most widely supported with game developers. Trouble is it's only for 1 player and it's coded into the game, so for 2 players you'll need to use a different interface. That's why on Bubble Bobble you need to select a different one. Question 2. No, I just have a blank profile or Xpadder is off. I would set them up if needed. Question 3. Xbox One and Xbox 360. And the lastly question. A man of my stature has no idea at all, lol. Depends on the type. Many other buttons could be either mapped (only 5 buttons are used for Kempston) or you need access to a keyboard. Take Atic Atac which requires you to press the number buttons to select controls method, character and "0" to start. Text adventures are no good at all. A question for you. Your using Bubble Bobble as a test are you, your not really going to play the Spectrum version?
eezetee Posted January 29, 2016 Author Posted January 29, 2016 Yeah, bubble bobble on the Spectrum was just my test rom. Easy and quick loading. So only 1 Kempston joystick. That explains possibly why my button mappings were going haywire. The Spec 8 emulator allows you to choose Kempston for both P1 and P2 but no matter what I set them to, in the game it would be one or the other. Do you have your xbox mapped in the emulator without xpadder? How are you doing that?Big thanks Giga!
gigapig Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 Do you have your xbox mapped in the emulator without xpadder? How are you doing that? Big thanks Giga! Yes. I switch on the controller, choose the joystick option then Kempston. I did have to change the direction keys as Up was set to a trigger so I remapped them all to the left analogue stick. You can then map other keys if you want. Spectaculator has a really good help section. I read in there that the game pad settings are saved to the snaphshot file for that game if your using snapshots.
