Takaji Posted March 12, 2016 Posted March 12, 2016 I am successfully able to load ColecoVision games using MESS 0.168, but I can't make them do anything. Some games load to the starting screen (ColecoVision logo, title of game, copyright info etc.) and others just load to a black screen. None of the buttons on my joypad or keyboard do anything. I'm using the setup that gigapig provided in the Platinum download section. Has anyone else had success with this, or am I doing something wrong?
Takaji Posted March 13, 2016 Author Posted March 13, 2016 press tab and configure keys? They're already configured and mapped to both my joypad and the keyboard; should've mentioned that
Takaji Posted March 20, 2016 Author Posted March 20, 2016 I'm trying to play "2010 - The Graphic Action Game" and all that happens is I see an intro screen and nothing else. I've checked in the key settings menu, and keys are mapped correctly to my joypad and to my keyboard. Some games just load as black screens. Nobody else has this problem?
kylecp1979 Posted March 20, 2016 Posted March 20, 2016 try adding your coleco bios to your roms or tell rocketlauncher where your bios are in settings. some of the games youll need a number pad to start up.
phulshof Posted March 20, 2016 Posted March 20, 2016 Are you loading roms directly or are you using the software lists? Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk
Takaji Posted March 20, 2016 Author Posted March 20, 2016 It's not a question of the system not finding the required coleco.zip rom; placing that in my roms folder has no effect as MAME already knows where it's located (see launch command below). I believe I'm loading roms directly and not using the softlists. RocketLauncher is using this run command: J:\HyperSpin\Emulators\Mame Mess 0.168\"mame.exe" coleco -cart "J:\HyperSpin\Games\ColecoVision\2010 - The Graphic Action Game (USA, Europe).zip" -rompath "J:\HyperSpin\Games\ColecoVision;J:\HyperSpin\Emulators\RetroArch\system\mess" -window -artwork_crop -nouse_bezels -use_overlays -use_backdrops -nouse_cpanels -nouse_marquees -nofilter -skip_gameinfo Can either of you try launching the 2010 game and letting me know what button(s) you needed to press to get beyond the ColecoVision intro screen with the game's title? That could help me determine if I've got an incorrectly mapped key somewhere (although I've tried a lot already). Thanks!
Takaji Posted March 21, 2016 Author Posted March 21, 2016 I just loaded the game on mine. It loads to a black title screen with the game name, then after about 10 seconds it goes to a blue screen where it asks to press a button 1-4 to select the difficulty. I haven't changed any of the key bindings and I press 1 (or another number) on the numpad to start the game. Strange... in my situation, the screen just re-draws within that ten second frame. It doesn't give me any sort of difficulty selection. Thanks for testing for me, though! It seems it's more than just key mapping... I'm going to check my actual rom files and see if I need the games in a different format.
phulshof Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 Same here: about 10 seconds of the title screen with the game name, followed by a selection screen.
Takaji Posted March 21, 2016 Author Posted March 21, 2016 It was a bad romset, can't believe it. Works now, thanks to all who helped me figure it out!
Reseda14 Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 Would it be possible just to use a joypad such as an Xbox 360 controller to play these kinds of numberpad consoles? I am also having trouble configuring buttons for Arcadia 2001, Bally Astrocade, etc. Any advice?
