whynotpizza Posted March 13, 2016 Posted March 13, 2016 Hey guys, Having trouble with Don's tool, specifically with games which are UNZIPPED on the system (in the form of *.bin and *.cue) files within a game folder instead. I have tried every combination I can think of in the .\HyperSpin\Settings\GAME.ini file and cannot get Don's tool to see these games which are located in folders. userompath=true romextension=7z,rar,zip,bin,cue searchsubfolders=true Any suggestions? David
wesfranks Posted March 13, 2016 Posted March 13, 2016 I wouldn't advise using Don's Rom Renamer for cd based game renaming. Don's and all the renaming utilities have quirks that are magnified by multi-file cd based sets. The following video explains one issue and recommends manual renaming. Not a problem if you only have a few roms to rename, but with thousands........ Most of us have our own workflow to make this easier, but it's difficult to explain and sounds more confusing than what it is. Main rule is to use a backup set to rename. When it goes to hell, if you can't fix the problem, revert the roms to their original state and begin again. Hope you only have a few games.
whynotpizza Posted March 13, 2016 Author Posted March 13, 2016 The issue here is not renaming the files, but rather trying to create XML for the games database. I am using "List Generator" here and it is NOT recognizing the game files when places in a folder "GAME A\gameA.bin" and "GAMEA\gameA.cue" ... it doesn't see "GAME A" at all not matter what I put in the INI file for the settings.
wesfranks Posted March 13, 2016 Posted March 13, 2016 OK, I set up a test system, just for you. For reference, used a sampling of ccd/sub/img, bin/cue/, multi-disc bin/cue games, multi-bin bin/cue games since those are the main options that you may find for those sets. Unzipped my 7z PS1 roms into sub-folders. Sub-folders are the same name as the files within specifically the img file and the cue file. Multi-track bin games same name with (Track 1), (Track 2), etc. appended. Most important is that each cue file is correctly pointing to the bin file(s) as in Austin's video. Out of those options, the important files are the img (no cue) or the cue file. Set Don's List Generator with the same parameters as yours, except for "romextension=?", I set to- img, cue. Created the XML. All games listed. Tested each in RocketLauncher, all worked- properly loading the game (each game in sub-folders, all files and folders name matched, especially the cue and img files, cue info correctly pointing to the bin(s)). Now let me go reset my system. Hope it works for you.
whynotpizza Posted March 16, 2016 Author Posted March 16, 2016 Thanks for the reply. For some unknown reason I still cannot get the tool to recognize games which are located within subfolders as described above. So, to fake it out, I copied ALL of my *.cue files to a new folder, modified the settings\GAME.ini to point to this temp location, and the tool works just fine to generate my XML. Go figure. Not the most elegant but gets me through the XML creation (which I plan to do just once). Thanks for offering some suggestions.
wesfranks Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 So your XML works? That's good if it does. The end result justifies the hoops we have to jump through sometimes. Thanks for the update. BTW, what version of Don's Tools are you using?
whynotpizza Posted March 17, 2016 Author Posted March 17, 2016 Yes, XML works fine - just had to trick things out to get Don's tool to recognize the *.cue files. Using the latest version (I think) which is 4.2.6.
