reddye5 Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 My Hyperspin recently stopped working for me after working flawlessly for over a year. When I'm on the Main Menu (system select wheel) and click on a system, the main menu just reloads. I never get to the selected system game menu. Also, the hyperspin exit menu doesn't seem to show up anymore... the Esc button just pauses the menu. If while paused I hit enter, Hyperspin closes. So the menu is there, I'm just not seeing it? Pretty confused. I checked through my HyperHQ and Hyperlaunch settings and don't see anything wrong. I am running Hyperspin1.3.2.0. Any help would be truly appreciated. Thanks.
Avar Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 Have you changed anything about your system? If you're 100% positive nothing at all has been changed, my first instinct would be to determine if the drive is beginning to fail and back up my data right away. There are some things we can try to troubleshoot the individual issues but let's rule out the biggest and most pressing threat first. I also encourage you to update to the latest version but will try to help regardless.
reddye5 Posted March 26, 2016 Author Posted March 26, 2016 Hey Guys, Thanks for the suggestions. Avar - My hyperspin set up is on an external hard drive. Recently, the computer I was running it from got a virus. The hyperspin external drive was never exposed to the virus, because I never had it plugged in after the virus got on the computer. That said, the first thing that happened to the computer is I lost all sound. No sound device detected. I just reformatted the computer and when I installed the sound driver, nothing happened. still "no sound device detected". That's the only change. Regarding updating to 1.4, can I do that and still use Hyperlaunch? I have my Hyperspin with tons of systems all set up. I really don't want to start from scratch with Rocketlauncher and all that. Agent 47 - I checked the Frontend folder and all the exit menu images are there. I also checked the filter settings in Hyper HQ and experimented with changing them. Still does the same thing regardless. I was hoping there is an ini file somewhere that got messed up.
volumetric Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 Just a guess, but have you unplugged your speakers recently?
reddye5 Posted March 26, 2016 Author Posted March 26, 2016 Hey volumetric, Funny you should ask that. My hyperspin set up is on an external hard drive. Would that have anything to do with it? Seems odd, but I believe the Hyperspin problem did start when the sound was lost. FYI: I did a test and did a fresh install of 1.33 on the computer itself and set up everything for one emulator. The issues occur on this fresh install too. So maybe it's something with my computer and not HS?
volumetric Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 Your sound card is definitely the issue. Installing an audio driver and plugging in your speakers will fix it. Its a well known issue.
reddye5 Posted March 26, 2016 Author Posted March 26, 2016 Thanks volumetric. I guess the sound card must be toast in my computer because I installed the driver for it and it's still not detected. Pretty frustrating. Good to know this is probably the issue though. Thanks!
reddye5 Posted March 31, 2016 Author Posted March 31, 2016 Hey Guys, Had a follow up question for you. As I stated earlier in this thread I am building my Hyperspin set up on an external hard drive using an old Vostro 1510 laptop as the computer as I shop for the right computer for my cab build. The sound card went toast and it's causing HS to not work, as well as tons of DirectSound errors in MAME from Hyperlaunch, etc. Since the soundcard in the laptop was onboard I was wondering, is there a cheap external usb soundcard out there that would work to remedy this in the short term? Don't have much experience with external soundcards, so thought I'd ask here. Once again, any help is truly appreciated.
