Wob Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Just wondering if anyone has had any success getting HyperSpin to load at startup, I can run it find manually but if I try and add it to my "Run" list in the registry so that it loads at startup or I have also tried setting it as my shell, this is my prefered method as it means I don't have to waste memory with explorer. I get a similar result to the people in the "Hyperspin not working at all" thread. HyperSpin is running but only shows a black screen, there is nothing in the log file and if I kill the task and manually rerun it it loads fine, even if explorer.exe is not running. Cheers, Beau
Thebutcherjb Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 I just drop it in the startup folder and thats it. it works good for me
Wob Posted August 26, 2008 Author Posted August 26, 2008 Yeah that works, always the simple solution. I would still like to run it as my shell so that I don't have to load explorer, does anyone know how I might go about debuging it?
Zinger19 Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 I just replaced the shell with hyperspin and it loads fine for me. Tell me what you've done step by step. NES Arcade Build StarKade: A Raspberry Pi Arcade 80's Toy Collection
Wob Posted August 26, 2008 Author Posted August 26, 2008 To set it as the Shell, 1. Open Regedit. 2. Navigate to \\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon 3. Change Shell Key from Explorer.exe to C:\Hyperspin\Hyperspin.exe 4. Reboot When the system comes back up and see a black screen with a mouse pointer, I hit Ctrl-Alt-Del and launch taskmanager, I can see hyperspin.exe running, trying to switch to the task does nothing. I can kill the task and rerun it via the run command in taskmanager and it launches fine. Thanks for the help, Beau
Zinger19 Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Did you change this from SYS:Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon to USR:Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\IniFileMapping\system.ini\boot Its the string named shell also make sure you run control userpasswords2 to disable the password login if you have one that pops up NES Arcade Build StarKade: A Raspberry Pi Arcade 80's Toy Collection
Zinger19 Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Also i don't know how you have it spelled on your computer but HyperSpin.exe is the way the it comes spelled by default and you have it spelled as Hyperspin.exe . That may or may not cause you to run into problems if it's not spelled exactly in your string as the exe is on your computer. NES Arcade Build StarKade: A Raspberry Pi Arcade 80's Toy Collection
Wob Posted August 26, 2008 Author Posted August 26, 2008 Thanks for the Tip, I changed that Regkey but no chance, password is disabled and I have it spelled HyperSpin.exe in my registry but it shouldn't be case sensitive anyway. I am running MicroXP, not sure if that's causing problems.
brian_hoffman Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 You need to specify a full path.. "c:\frontends\hyperspin\hyperspin.exe" Your path is diffrent im sure but I hope that helps. You must defeat Sheng Long to stand a chance.
Wob Posted August 26, 2008 Author Posted August 26, 2008 Ahhh, I am "C:\Hyperspin\Hyperspin.exe" as mentioned above. It's loading HyperSpin, I can see the task running, it just doesn't show anything, I just get a blank screen. Strange this is that if I kill the task and relaunch it then everything works fine.
brian_hoffman Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 its probably loading before other dependency's. does your display driver load in the taskbar? err driver control panel. Make a AHK script that waits 5 seconds before running HS would do the trick. then use the script as the shell You must defeat Sheng Long to stand a chance.
BadBoyBill Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 dont forget incase you want to escape back to explorer on exit of HS to set the exit program in HS.
Wob Posted August 26, 2008 Author Posted August 26, 2008 Thanks guys, I'll give the delay a try. My exit program is going to be shutdown once I have it all sorted. Ctrl-Alt-Del will get to to explorer should I need it
Wob Posted August 26, 2008 Author Posted August 26, 2008 No Joy, I even blew the delay out to 20 seconds to make sure, Still nothing being produced in the logs. I guess for now I'll live with loading explorer as the shell and loading hyperspin via the startup folder.

I guess for now I'll live with loading explorer as the shell and loading hyperspin via the startup folder. I can't do either! I've checked, double checked and triple checked and it doesn't work for me. In both cases (running as a shell and in the startup folder) nothing loads, but when I load task manager, hyperspin.exe is listed as a running program. Hyperspin runs perfectly if I run normally. edit: I can run from the startup folder. but it'd still be nice to run this as shell
davorini Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 interestingly enough i get the same black screen w/ mouse pointer you guys referred to w/ hyperspin listed as running according to the taskbar if i run hyperspin via desktop shortcut
camptbone Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 Did anyone ever figure this out? I have the same problem.
Guest Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 Have people not just tried the group policy that's available in pro and above versions of Windows 7 & 8?
