Styphelus Posted April 16, 2016 Posted April 16, 2016 Since upgrading to Mame 0.171 I haven't been able to get my Mess systems to work. For example, atari 7800 - when I try to run a game, Mame starts, says Loading system 0% and exists. I have the bios files in the roms folder. Tried using MameUI and with that one, I get a popup saying it can't find 7800u,u7, despite that file being in the roms folder. What am I doing wrong? I was never too familiar with Mame but I had Mame and Mess both running perfectly fine before. Guess there have been too many changes in the past few years and I haven't been keeping up.

Did you update both the emulator and the rom set? Consider also updating both to 172.

Can you send me a PM? As for the rom set, I shouldn't have to update it. I do have the Mame 0.171 rom set but for the other systems, whatever rom sets I have should work. The only Mess system so far that seems to work is the Amstrad GX4000.

The only Mess system so far that seems to work is the Amstrad GX4000. You should always update you rom set when you update the emulator as the rom files may have moved or changed. As agent47 says the MAME bios roms are included with the general MAME set now - since the MAME/MESS merge. I'd really suggest updating the rom set and testing again. You might as well move to 172 for both rom set and emulator in the process.
Guest Posted April 16, 2016 Posted April 16, 2016 There are a few people who are having issues with lightguns, hlsl, and other settings in .172 so they reverted back to .171. Styph may be one of those people. Yeah, true. But I'd still always recommend keeping the rom set and emulator versions in sync.
potts43 Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 I still use mess 163 for about 15 systems. All work perfectly. Got all minted Databases so no need to update them. However Mame (arcade) are a WIP so there is an argument to keep updating versions.
Styphelus Posted April 18, 2016 Author Posted April 18, 2016 Thanks. Got it working. I went with 1.171 because I can't get Hlsl to work with 1.172. Glsl works but I like hlsl better. Does anyone have good hlsl settings for 1.172? The ones from previous versions of mame don't work.
