I'm using my dolhinbar in mode 3 (gamepad mode) to play Wind Waker using dolphin. I have to put it in mode 3 before I start the game or dolphin won't see the controller. Is there a way to keep the controller listed in dolphin even when it's not in mode 3?

The only way I know to do it is with xpadder and you setup the buttons as keyboard presses. That way the game is never looking for the controller but looking for keyboard presses. That worked for me on a NESPC I used wireless controllers for and allowed player 2 to jump in without the controller being turned on before the emulator started.

Any application has this limitation. The controller needs to be connected before starting. The only thing that sucks for newer games is you can forget about analog controls due to the limitations of keyboard presses. So if you want to walk / run with the controller stick you would need a modifier button instead of it reading the degree at which you are moving your control stick.

One long shot option is something I did do for n64 was setup the two controllers then made all the config files read only. This way when entering the application it couldn't revert back the settings when it didn't detect the 2nd controller. This also allowed player 2 to jump in at any point as well as prevent me from needing to use keyboard presses. I was able to us analog controls on the stick and it worked great. One flaw though is when it can't find player two it reads the control stick at a negative access. This caused any game that allowed player 2 to control menu options to constantly scroll menus. You can fix it by turning player 2 controller on. It's rare but super smash bros. Is a popular game thus people do see it. This could be an option for you via dolphin but I have never tried it.

Thanks for the input. It's not a huge issue. I just thought I'd check if there was an easy way to get around it.
