Scummvm not launching

Hello

 

Out of all my systems, i find scummvm the hardest to set up!

I have been messing around with this for some time, and i see no other option then to ask for help.

The games are launching fine within scummvm.

When i launch a game from HL i can only see a command window briefly then for some time i get the "There was an error waiting for the window "ahk_class SDL_app""

Make sure you are using a recent version of ScummVM, 1.7 or 1.8. You want to have the roms unzipped with each game in its own folder, with the folder name being that from the name tab in the database. If you have the official database this should already be the case.

You also need to load ScummVM on its own, and then add the games in the UI. If you load ScummVM and press shift you'll notice the buttons change to allow you to add multiple games at the same time. Press the button and select your ScummVM rom folder.

In my folder I have both unzipped and zipped versions of the roms. Scummvm will not add zipped roms, and Hyperlaunch will not detect unzipped rom folders...

How is this done right?

 

I dont have an official database, I created my own from my rom names... I will try with the official and then rename the roms accordingly.

Is it important that the "id tag" of the game in Scummvm is matchine the rom/database name?

Ah you're using HyperLauncher. I'd advise you move to RocketLauncher as HL is unlikely to get anymore updates. RL is basically the next version of HL just renamed now as it supports multiple frontends.

I'd really advice that change as your next step. There is a migration tool and tutorial available at the RL forums.

Then delete the games from your temp directory. This way you can tel rocketlauncher to unzip and launch scummvm games as it will unzip them to a path scummvm expects them to be

Does this method work for you with the current module? This is the method I've always been using. It stopped working after the big RL update in April. When I use an older module, it works fine. I have a thread about this in the RL forums.

Edit: Actually, I wasn't using this exact method. I didn't unzip the games to my temp folder. You don't need to do that. I have no idea how that works. All the game paths in my ScummVM ini is pointing to the folder that I unzipped the games to (which doesn't exist anymore). This works great with the older module. I just tested changing all the paths in the ini to my temp folder but it's still not working with the latest module. I even tried unzipping "atlantis-fm" manually and put the files in my temp folder. Launched the game in RL and got the error message. After that, RL had deleted the game. Something must be wrong with the module.

Try setting the LaunchMode to Auto instead of ParseIni in the module settings and see if that works Dime.

Oh, my god! That worked. I'm pretty sure that didn't work before I changed all the paths in the ini to point to my Temp folder. Thank you very much.

Yeah, with the Auto setting it reads the emu's ini file, so if the path is correct in there it should launch. Before testing other stuff I set those paths to my temp folder and the Auto setting worked.

Thanks for all the great feedback!

I have now updated to rocketlauncher following the transition from hyperlaunch guide.

I was kind of shocked when i launched rocketlauncher to find out that all my systems where gone... Is this the case or have i screwed it up??

It is now showing all my systems and my original problem is solved right out of the box. Scummvm is now launching!
