rubaducky Posted December 13, 2009 Posted December 13, 2009 Hey guys I've been bang'in my head against the wall trying to get an emulator to work with Atari 5200. Currently I am using mess. It opens the games fine but it doesn't save my button configuration so i have to redo it every time I open it. It also slow to respond to button commands on my Pentium 4 machine (Plays N64 fine but can hardly handle atari??? ). Is there a faster emulator out there that has button mapping support? Or is there a way to fix mess so it runs faster and will save my settings? Its running on a Pentium 4, 2.8 mhz Thanks
rubaducky Posted December 14, 2009 Author Posted December 14, 2009 hmm, it must have been a tougher question than I thought.
dpar Posted December 14, 2009 Posted December 14, 2009 I believe there is a post somewhere of someone who is running Jum52 as their emulator and it works. I am running mess and it is working fine for me, I remember having some issues with button config intially but I honestly don't remember what I had to do to fix it, as I set it up many months ago. If I think of it I will post what I did.
SophT Posted December 14, 2009 Posted December 14, 2009 I have the same problem with mess. Things I Break ----- System Requirements? How do I remove rom warnings? How do I shut-down my computer? How do I shell HyperSpin?
rubaducky Posted December 15, 2009 Author Posted December 15, 2009 I've tried using Jum52 and it would work great if you could setup the button configuration. I can't find anywhere to customize the controls in Jum52.
sneakily1 Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 I'm using MESS for Atari 2600, 5200, 7800, Coleco Vision, Atari Jaguar, and Intellivison all successfully. What I did, even though it takes up a little more space...I created a directory for each system and each runs it's own copy of MESS instead of just setting up MESS once and having it run all emulators. I'm then using Hyperlaunch to call up MESS in order to run them. By doing this, each system has it's own main MESS config file that I could manually edit depending on the systems dependancies. I then had to run a system in Mess and hit the TAB key to setup the controller config...but then it would save everything fine. Like I said, it's a little more tedious...but everything works perfectly for me. It also made troubleshooting issues a lot easier because now if I have an issue it's only for the one system emulator. I don't know if this would work for everyone, and it took some time...but it works. Hope this might help
cold_fire Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 I know that this is an OLD thread but as a newbie coming in I am having the same exact issue. My configuration is set up just like sneakily1 stated above with all emulators running a separate instance of mess. I run HS and while running that emu I hit TAB and change the controller settings in the "general input" section. Then I change the player 1 controls as well. When I back out and go back to HS and rerun the same EMU the settings are gone. Any help is greatly appreciated. CF
