NiteSite Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 OK So let me get this the broken down as simple as possible 2 different issues: 1) Hyperspin crashes (just exits) when viewing some games on the wheel. Happens way more often in MAME but also happens to me in my NES and Sega wheels as well. All artwork and vidoes downloaded using Hypersync cloud. 2) While in Hyperspin and it does not crash on me and I select a system and then a game. Once done I hit ESC to exit the emulator it goes strait back out to windows. But there is another issue there as well. 2a)When the unit exit goes back to windows instead of back to hyperspin I am missing my taskbar. No start button no time/date nothing at all showing. The space for the bar is there along the bottom. I hit the start button I can see the start menu but still no bar Temp fix is to run HyperSpin.exe and exit it at the main wheel 2b) Exiting from the main/sub wheels does not cause the issue only exiting ANY emulator causes this. I am currently using HS 1.4.16. Windows 10 64-bit OS. 32GB memory Intel Core i7-4810MQ @ 2.80GHz GTX880M video card Everything loads and exits from RocketLauncher with no issues. Please let me know if any other info is needed!
JoyStickKilla Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 1) Sounds like a bad media file or something wrong in your database 2) So this only happens when the game is launched via RL from HS and not when launched from RLUI?
Dabil Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 I get similar results when running hyperspin on Windows 10. Many people have experienced problems like this on Windows 10. Sometimes when I exit an emulator I can see hyperspin windowed. Sometimes it will then expand back to full screen. Pressing ctrl + alt will some times bring your task bar back. Sometimes you have to press ctrl + alt numerous times to do so, or wait about a minute then do it. The only fix I have found is to switch to another front end, or use Windows 7. You may be able to use an older hyperspin.exe. I have been meaning to ask the community if some one could post a hyperspin.exe that is known to work well with Windows 10 for me to try. Guest Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 1) Sounds like a bad media file or something wrong in your database 2) So this only happens when the game is launched via RL from HS and not when launched from RLUI? I think this is the first thing to check. I'd create a new system (just to test), then redownload the MAME database. Try loading games with no media added, only the database. Then add the media back one type at a time, launching games in between. Hopefully the problem will show itself. I know you said you got everything from HyperSync - but there could always have been a bad download.
Dabil Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 On my system, I copied the exact hyperspin set up from my Windows 7 machine that works flawlessly to my Windows 10, and it behaves with the same errors described. I even tried deleting and recopying since I thought something must have messed up from the previous copy. Same problem. And I am far from the only person describing this problem. Hopefully tones is correct and your problem will be bad media NiteSite, but I would be very surprised to hear that. One thing I have been wondering about, is that when I upgraded to 1.4 originally it came with the hyperspin.exe, AutoHotkey.dll, and HScript.ahk. That seemed to work pretty good on Windows 10. Except I started noticing that the longer it ran, the more the videos would skip, and the slower the artwork would load. I then upgraded next with 1.4.16, which only came with the hyperspin.exe. So I am wondering if the AutoHotkey.dll, and HKey.ahk or other files were upgraded again in an update I missed. Because if they were necessary to upgrade, you would think they would be included in every 1.4 update in case people missed the original update. Any comments? Ideas? I think gigapig or someone posted a complete install somewhere, I may just download it and see if it has the same problem. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk

Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk HyperSpin update only contained the exe - that is correct. Not seen any other threads for this issue - though I may have missed them. I'd also make sure you're graphics drivers are up to date. And make sure you're NOT running anything as admin. Problems could also have arisen if people had compatibility settings on HS - this isn't needed. Another thing - I do remember that a bunch of EmuMovie vids were re-encoded because of a problem. That would also be worth checking - but my suggestion in the post above would weed that issue out. Just a few further ideas off the top of my head. If not of this works - we are going to need more info, system specs, RL and HS versions for example.
Dabil Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 Well hopefully the other people having this problem will join this thread. I think I can rule out video card drivers as I have the same problems whether I use Intel integrated graphics or my nvidia gpu. Also I removed the two added files that came with the original 1.4 update AutoHotkey.dll and HScript.ahk from the scripts/HScript directory. I expected hyperspin to crash, but it didn't seem to care these were missing. Not running as admin or with compatibility settings. And again, I will remind you, this exact set up works flawlessly on my Windows 7 machine. So I am thinking the media files are not to blame. Especially since it doesn't matter what system I am on in hyperspin. System specs: OS: Windows 10 Home 64-bit Hardware: Asus GL502VT laptop i7-6700HQ CPU @ 2.6 Ghz 12 GB RAM nVidia GTX 970m or Intel HD Graphics 530 Software: Hyperspin 1.4.16 Rocketlauncher 1.1.1.1 Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk

Removing those files isn't really gonna help, they are only needed for the scripting feature that was introduced with a recent version of HS. Leave them in place. Please setup a new system, and test launching games - gradually adding in database, image media then video media - launching games as a test at each step and then report back. Test a system that you are currently having problems with. I got your point about it working on Win 7, you mentioned that a couple of times. It's flawed think though. HS does definitely work on Win 10, we know that - a major proportion of HS users use Win 10. While your specific issue is clearly related to Win 10, the fix is elsewhere. We just need to find it.
Guest Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 Extra thought - Do you have some kind of graphics card switching app on your machine? I notice your laptop has two cards in.
Guest Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 If neither of the stuff above works I'll do a team viewer.
NiteSite Posted September 13, 2016 Author Posted September 13, 2016 Wow I did not expect a response this quickly!! As I said in my original post for my system specs are as follows: I am currently using HS 1.4.16. Windows 10 64-bit OS. 32GB memory Intel Core i7-4810MQ @ 2.80GHz GTX880M video card I have moved the entire folder to Windows 7 pc. It does not crash or suffer of any of the issues I listed above. So it's not a new build but it is the same building on another pc with no problems. *Edit* Is there a way to downgrade to 1.3.3 on my current setup just to make sure it's not a 1.4 issue?
NiteSite Posted September 13, 2016 Author Posted September 13, 2016 1) Sounds like a bad media file or something wrong in your database 2) So this only happens when the game is launched via RL from HS and not when launched from RLUI? 1) Database is original and has not been touched. All downloads came from hypersync 2) yes only when HS is used Launching emulators/games through RLUI works fine and exits with no issues.
Dabil Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 NiteSite you can downgrade to 1.33. And 1.33 does work perfectly on Windows 10 with one exception, If you are using Intel integrated graphics then the Game play videos will be garbled. When using my nVidia card videos work perfectly. However you do not have native xbox 360 pad support in hyperspin 1.33 and there are a number of settings differences to make to get games to load in 1.33 so it isn't an easy conversion. To select your nVidia gpu to work with hyperspin right click an empty spot on your desktop, from the menu select NVIDIA Control Panel, from the left panel that says select a task click on Manage 3D Settings, in the middle where it says "I would like to use the following 3D Settings" click on the tab for Program Settings, where it says "1. Select a program to customize" click add, at the bottom of the pop-up window select browse...., find your hyperspin.exe file and select it, then hit open, below find where it says "2. Select the preferred graphics processor for this program" click the drop down and select "high-performance NVIDIA processor", then go to the very bottom of the page and hit apply. You follow this same exact process if you add CEMU, as it will not run using integrated graphics as well. I believe this is default nVidia software for Windows 10. It came with my laptop. My buddy has the same capabilities with his laptop. Btw guys, I removed all the media out of the folders when using 1.4.16, even without any media ie game videos, boxes, wheels, carts the problem remains. The only media I left in place was the default theme, custom pointer, and custom numbers/letters. If I get a chance tonight I will try downloading a completely new setup and do a fresh install and see if that fixes 1.4. But again, 1.33 works perfectly on Windows 10 when using nVidia gpu, so these problems are related only with hyperspin 1.4. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
Dabil Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 I guess I spoke too soon when I said 1.33 works perfectly. There is a difference in that when you exit an emulator, hyperspin will remain in whatever screen resolution that emulator used. So just make sure all your emulator use your default screen resolution and things work well. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
NiteSite Posted September 14, 2016 Author Posted September 14, 2016 So I decided to try my setup on an external HDD and move it to other PC's in the house. 1st: laptop yoga flex windows 10 - exits back to HS no issues still crashes 2nd: desktop HP windows 10 Intel Video card - exits back to HS no issues crashes to black screen. Plugged back into my original laptop - It is now exiting back to Hyperspin no issues!!!!! I HAVE NO IDEA WHY!!!!! Still crashing but I took my time when checking the crashing and found that it was happening on specific games!!! So I went in and re-named the video file and still the same issue on the same game. Renamed the video back and then re-named the theme. BOOM no more crashing to black screen. I descided to remove all themes and re-download them through hypersync. It could be a hardware issue with your gpu drivers in Win10 since you tested it on different hardware and OS. Given that your random crashes occur when navigating HS which involves loading themes, video, etc. I'd say it's prob an issue with drivers or something else related to your gpu. I haven't seen any other people report random crashes like that, let alone on Win10. Also make sure that you have your HS folder added as an exception in any antivirus you're running. Windows Defender (which is forced in Win10 by default) is known for causing trouble with HyperHQ and wouldn't surprise me if that was the issue. First thing I did/do is setup AV/AS software exceptions so this was not the cause. Kepping/using the setup on the external as it works better and hopefully the re-downloaded themes help
NiteSite Posted September 14, 2016 Author Posted September 14, 2016 Yup some but files on your setup Sorry I don't know this means? OK so update. I removed all themes and then re-downloaded them using Hypersync. The same games are still causing it to crash. New issue after removing all the MAME themes and re-downloading them all. Now a lot of the game either keep the theme from the previous game and/or there is no video when it was there before. All I did was delete JUST the files in the Theme folder.
Dabil Posted September 15, 2016 Posted September 15, 2016 Good news on my end... I downloaded a fresh Hyperspin install from Gigapig here So far all the problems I was having are gone. I have slowly been moving my media from my old build over and everything is working great. None of the random crashing, slow downs, missing task bar on exit, or other problems have reoccurred. I only have a few systems set up, but I am being dilegent to make sure to test after each new media I copy over. Will keep you posted if I discover what was causing the issue with my old build.
Metalzoic Posted September 15, 2016 Posted September 15, 2016 I've never seen anyone else have that issue, but if you were just copy/pasting your build from one machine to another I would expect there to be problems, so it doesn't surprise me that a fresh install works fine. Glad you got it sorted.
NiteSite Posted September 16, 2016 Author Posted September 16, 2016 So I accidentaly dropped my HDD while moving things.... new the drive clicks and does nothing *sigh* I will be starting fresh now so we will see what happens from here! C'est La Vie!
Dabil Posted September 16, 2016 Posted September 16, 2016 Well I had copy pasted that exact build to over 10 different machines. Never had a problem until Windows 10 came along. There really is nothing wrong with moving your build. Just make sure you are using relative addressing and it's fine. The problem isn't that I copied the build from another, machine, the problem is that something in the build isn't playing nice with Windows 10. And again, I have talked to lots of people who had this problem with Hyperspin on Windows 10. Not sure why there aren't more threads about it I guess it's just easier to start over. And I didn't actually do a fresh install, I used gigapigs 1.10 build. NiteSite I am very sorry to hear that about your hard drive. That really sucks. I lost a hard drive about 3 months ago to a power surge. Maybe it was for the best though if things weren't working correctly. Starting over with a new build seems to be the thing to do.
