Martin0037 Posted September 28, 2016 Posted September 28, 2016 Hi all. I'm sure this has been covered countless times but I just can't seem to find any solution to this. So again, if the problem I'm having has already been resolved Im not looking in the right place... My spinner and trackball, neither I can get to work and it's getting on my tits to be fair. Goggled and searched until my eyeballs ache. The trackball works fine in Windows, both trackball and spinner are plugged in, Windows sees them and as far as Windows is, they are there. Trackball, moves the mouse on Windows fine. I just cannot get them to work, either in hyperspin running mame, or just mame alone. I've tried... In mame settings- Making sure multiple mouse inputs are enabled, mouse, dial devices are set to mouse. Launching mame on its own, then TAB, player 1 controls, scroll down to trackball. When I click to set input and move the mouse, I just get < > Nothing shows up apart from a mouse arrow on the screen. Same with the spinner, I just get <. >. Nothing registers. Same if I launch hyperspin with mame. I can however move the hyperspin wheel up and down but that's it... I'm doing something wrong but no idea what. And I'm going bald as it is, and this is seriously speeding up the balding process. Can someone help please? Many thanks. My specs are win7 64bit Hyperspin 1.36
Martin0037 Posted September 28, 2016 Author Posted September 28, 2016 I've also checked the settings in the mame.ini folder and mouse is set to 1 and multi mouse etc is also set to 1. I've also checked in rocket launcher, mame global settings, and checked the ini path is set to where the ini folder is. I must be doing something else wrong..

Just to clarify, the mame.ini is in the ini folder in mame yes? After that you should be able to configure through Mame settings (TAB when playing) in "Input General" > Player X Config > (don't remember if it is Track Dial, Digital Dial or something like this). When select one of those, remember to move trackball till it appears as configured.
Martin0037 Posted September 29, 2016 Author Posted September 29, 2016 Brill thanks. Is it same process for the spinner? Thanks for your help
Martin0037 Posted September 29, 2016 Author Posted September 29, 2016 The trackball and spinner setting in hyper hq? Are they nothing to do with in game settings? As I've noticed you can only turn either trackball or spinner on, not both. But I figured these are only for the hyperspin menu?
kylecp1979 Posted September 29, 2016 Posted September 29, 2016 Don't use the track ball or spinner they have never worked right it will just mess things up. Just set up you keyboard or joystick and use that to navigate the hyperspin menu The trackball and spinner setting in hyper hq? Are they nothing to do with in game settings? Martin0037 Posted September 29, 2016 Author Posted September 29, 2016 No joy. Tried that. The mame.ini file is in a folder called ini within the mame folder that has the mame.exe and everything else in... Is this right? There are other ini files in there like horizont vertical etc. I'll post some pics
Martin0037 Posted September 29, 2016 Author Posted September 29, 2016 This is what's inside the "ini" folder
Martin0037 Posted September 29, 2016 Author Posted September 29, 2016 I've set everything as it should be in the mame.ini as far as I know... When I TAB in a game, player 1 controls etc.. Click on track X analog then move the trackball so it picks it up I just get this...
Martin0037 Posted September 29, 2016 Author Posted September 29, 2016 When I click to set track analog, move Te trackball, the orange curser appears as it does if I move a normal mouse, then the TAB menu seems to freeze? Have to esc back to hyperspin. This thing is really doing my head in
Martin0037 Posted September 29, 2016 Author Posted September 29, 2016 I'm using mameuifx 0.159 x64 nonag+high score
ci2own Posted September 29, 2016 Posted September 29, 2016 I'm using mameuifx 0.159 x64 nonag+high score Have you tried it in Mouse Analog? Track Analog? or Dial Analog?
Martin0037 Posted September 29, 2016 Author Posted September 29, 2016 Tried in track analog and dial analog. As soon as I move trackball that orange curser appears
Martin0037 Posted September 29, 2016 Author Posted September 29, 2016 I'm wondering if it's a Windows problem? Weird though as the trackball works ok in Windows. That spinner doesn't do anything at all
ci2own Posted September 29, 2016 Posted September 29, 2016 Tried in track analog and dial analog. As soon as I move trackball that orange curser appears When configure X axis just make ball go up and down continuos. And when configure Y axis left and right till it appears in config. For the Spinner just one Axis.

Martin0037 Posted September 30, 2016 Author Posted September 30, 2016 I've noticed there is no mame.ini file in the same folder as the mame.exe. It's in a folder called "ini" Everything I've googled suggested there should be mame.ini in the mame folder where mame.exe is? Or is this just for older/different versions? Tried trackball and soon as I move it it just pops up with the orange curser. I'll try on all track etc devices.

You have to create mame.ini by executing (from command line for example): mame(64).exe -cc Then modify options for trackball as told and after that configure in a Trackball game (Some bowling games uses trackball).
Martin0037 Posted September 30, 2016 Author Posted September 30, 2016 Sorry, might be me being thick with computers but I've got no idea how to do that...
ci2own Posted September 30, 2016 Posted September 30, 2016 Sorry, might be me being thick with computers but I've got no idea how to do that... You have to open a console (by going to Windows Start Menu and typing cmd. Then go to the folder where you have MAME emulator for example: D:\Emulators\MAME\mame64.exe (or mame.exe). And type: mame64.exe -cc (or mame.exe -cc) that's it! With this you'll create the mame.ini config you need.
Martin0037 Posted September 30, 2016 Author Posted September 30, 2016 So basically I have to type whatever the mame.exe file name is just put the -cc on the end? Mine is something stupid like mame.0.159nonag....... Really long
