Best Emulator for MAME? Easiest to setup?

Hello,

I recently updated my MAME set from 0.175 to 0.179. I was using MAMEUIFX and really liked it. However, as we all know the developer moved on to better things and parted ways with that project. So not really knowing how to config other versions of MAME emulators which one is the most similar or what do you all seem to like\use the most?

I downloaded the standard MAME but it's not as user friendly as the MAMEUIFX that I was accustomed to.

Curious myself. One reason I'm still on 175 is because I didn't want to have to mess with a clunkier version of MAME.

The MAMEUIFX project has been taken up by someone else, renamed Arcade64. Sevenseal did a compilation for  0.178 but I'm not sure he's done it for 0.179, yet. I'm sure someone else has, though. I agree that the UI is the best part about it.

I had no idea. Thanks man. I'll probably wait until 180 to mess with it again. Any idea what's been fixed or upgraded since 175?

Light guns all good now? GLSL/HLSL all good? etc...

I think light guns and maybe some old school programing, some Japanese casino games, one Galaga  like game,  and chess games was what I saw on the video on YouTube. I haven't ventured into the light gun realm yet. Man, I'd sure like to though.

Light guns are fixed (supposedly; I don't use them) plus some enhancements to HLSL. There were some ROM changes to include .key files, in case you hadn't heard of that. 0.179 had some additional HLSL changes but I haven't had a chance to even think about looking at it.
