[IDEA] Start Menu above Main Menu

Hey everyone!

I had an interesting idea, that I wanted to get some input on.

I've read that "Main Menu changer" makes it so you can add another level on top of the system wheels.
While this seems like it works just fine for separating Consoles, Handhelds, Computers, Arcades, etc...

I was thinking though, how cool would it be to have an actual Start menu???

That way, after the intro video you just exploit the theme in order to get a beautiful title screen for your build and the glorious "Press Start" wording that naturally brings you to the 'main menu'.

I feel like it might be pretty easy to do, I've just never worked with Main Menu Changer before.

What do you guys think?

You will be surprised at how easy it will be to make that happen.  Main Menu Changer makes it fairly easy.  The artwork for the start menu will probably take longer.

My take on it though is that it is an added layer that will get old if you use your hyperspin much.  All of the people I have build units for so far use their cabinets more for status than play-ability so they would love the flair but me, I cut out as much delay as possible to get to the games.  Hell if it just me, I launch from RL when possible.  What you purpose though would add some flair for sure.

Sweet! I'll play around with it and see how it works.

Yeah most people just want a flashy arcade cabinet, and I get that.,

For me, the end goal is a console that replicates as much of the 90's aesthetic as possible. This system has replaced everything except the most modern consoles like PS4/X1. Just one box under a TV. I no longer need a WALL of consoles/cables/game boxes.

When my system turns on it displays TV static as the intro video (trying to find an HD version of this) and then goes into the main menu. The entire thing is controlled by a controller as well. I've actually gutted a lot of the flashy stuff out because of this. For instance all my themes are 100% custom, but low key. The only animation I have is a bounce when the console image comes up. It's all very uniform and simplistic (but nice). I'll be uploading some new stuff soon, my signature is broken and out of date lol.

For my setup, the start screen would be great to add to that feel. Kinda making it seem like "Hyperspin" is a game itself. I know what you mean though when you say most people wouldn't utilize such a feature.

Ideally I want the boot-up sequence to be:

TV Static with "CH 03" in the corner > fizzle (like you'd see with a console connected to a CRT and turn it on), my custom logo/animation (like how you'd see capcom's before street fighter or something) and then have the start screen animate in followed by "press start" pulling up.

So we will see if this step can get knocked off that checklist :D
