jtb1987 Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 Hi everyone, I'm embarking on my first attempt to setup hyperspin and rocketlauncher on my PC for mame. I'm following the full hyperspin guide from Ryan at gameroomsolutions.com, which has been very helpful. I'm now at the point where I need to create my xml list so that I can filter/edit roms out of my hyperspin wheel for mame using Don's hyperspin tools. In the rocket launcher tool, I've successfully mapped my rom paths, which are multiple paths (roms, bios, artwork and chds). When I run the audit within rocket launcher it finds everything and I can launch the games fine. However, fast forward to trying to update HyperHQ and then subsequently to generate and audit an XML list for filtering in Don's hyperspin list generator - when I scan the xml list, the tool shows that I have nothing! Steps I'm taking: 1. I downloaded mame list xml from the Hyperspin website and created a "hyperlist" folder in my hyperspin directory to put it in. 2. I opened HyperHQ and made ensured that I had a rom path with all my mame file folders. In HyperHQ you can only have 1 path, unlike rocket launcher. So I have a single folder called "mame collection" and inside it I have separate folders for roms, bios, artwork and chd files. In HyperHQ, I made sure to enable the options to use the full path, search subfolders and I made sure to type in all file extensions to look for (zip, 7z, chd). 3. I opened Don's hyperspin tool list generator and referenced the mame xml list I saved in my hyperlist folder. Then I told it to generate the xml list and save it in my mame emulator folder within my hyperspin directory. Then I clicked scan. Don's hyperspin list generator tool then shows the audit but all files are red, indicating they are missing/not found. I'm searching and searching for what I did wrong or if others are having similar issues but I can't find anything. Thank you for any help at all, I feel like I'm getting so close!
32assassin Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 is their a special reason why you decided to split your mame folder into 3 folders? a proper MAME XML, DOES NOT HAVE any CHD OR BIOS listings. each CHD based game as a corresponding rom zip file. When you load a CHD game you manually load the zip file. Once that is loaded the MAME emulator will automatically look for the CHD file. for BIos Do You really need an explanation on why they are not part of the XML. it would be like having the PSX Bios in or XML.
jtb1987 Posted January 24, 2017 Author Posted January 24, 2017 Thanks both for the reply! There is no special reason i have them separated out into their own folders, other than that's how the collection came from pleasuredome (separate folders for roms, bios, chds, artwork). In HyperHQ it also gives the option to also search subfolders, so I thought I could just keep the folders separate and put them all in a single folder called, "mame collection" and give HyperHQ that path to that folder. It also just seems like a cleaner way of organizing the files as opposed to putting all roms, bios, artwork and chds in a single folder.

I don't know maybe I'm confused on what you're trying to do but if mame is launching fine with RL and HS... maybe just download one of the filtered XML's that doesn't have any of the casino games, etc. or set your hyperHQ to wheels only or parents only?

You can add seperate rom,CHD and Bios paths to your MAME exe. thats what I did. and every thing works. lets back up here for a second when you say MAME, are you talking about the arcade only exe; or are you talking about the most resent MAME version . The MAME and MESS merger, the MAME exe version that includes consoles. are you trying to make an XML for Arcade or a specific console? edit Quote In the rocket launcher tool, I've successfully mapped my rom paths, which are multiple paths (roms, bios, artwork and chds). RL and Hyperspin uses the same XML, if RL can find your roms, then Hyperpin WILL find your roms. the problem is that the sub-folder search DOES NOT WORK!!!!!. I asked BB if this was fixed in the 1.4 update, he said yes, but apparently its still a bug your rom path in HyperHQ should be to your roms folder ONLY!!!! (AND YOU DON"T NEED TO ADD ONE IF YOU ARE NOT USING ROM FILTERS) open your MAME.exe and add the path to your CHD and BIos folders.

I'm working on trying to create an Arcade/ MAME only wheel in HyperSpin. I'm trying to use the HyperSpin tools to filter out clones or games I wouldn't want to appear on the wheel when I go to run HyperSpin. I seem to have it working now - What I did was put my folders for BIOs and CHDs both inside the ROMs folder. Then in HyperHQ, I pointed the path to this ROMs folder (E:\Rom Collection\MAME Collection\MAME ROMs\) I edited my Mame.ini file to read this (should anything else be updated)?: homepath . rompath E:\Rom Collection\MAME Collection\MAME ROMs hashpath hash samplepath E:\Rom Collection\MAME Collection\MAME 0.175 EXTRAs\samples artpath E:\Rom Collection\MAME Collection\MAME 0.175 EXTRAs\artwork ctrlrpath ctrlr inipath .;ini;ini/presets fontpath . cheatpath cheat crosshairpath crosshair pluginspath plugins languagepath language swpath software Anyways, I'm going to try to now progress in the guide I'm following. As a separate topic and something that's really bugging me, and let me know if this needs to be a new thread, is for some reason the Capcom games CPS2 are not working in rocket launcher (marvel vs. capcom, alien vs. predator). The version I'm working with is 0.175. Both Rocket Launcher and Don's Hyperspin tools say that the games (and other Capcom games) are available. However, when I try to launch one from Rocket Launcher, it shows the percentage loading but then the screen just goes away and I go back to my desktop. I can also note that when loading them with a MAMEUI64, they load just just fine, no issues (same rom directory as what I have in HyperHQ and my mame.ini file in my HyperSpin folder) - it's only rocket launch that seems to not be able to load them. All other games I've tested launch fine in rocket launcher! I hate that I'm moving forward with setting up the wheel without knowing why some of the most awesome games aren't working lol! **Edit, I've been continuously trying to test and I'm wondering if the MAMEUI64 program has additional emulators, specifically for the CPS2 "built in", while the rocket launcher is absent of the CPS2 emulator and that I have to somehow manually add it. If anyone can point me in the right direction, I'd greatly appreciate it, thanks!***
