Game Pad stops working once I exit game

Everything works fine now until I exit a game.  I'm using an xbox style controller with JoyToKey.

Once I exit a game, only the keyboard responds to control HyperSpin.  The game pad no longer responds at all.

If I use the keyboard to then select a new game, once I get into the game the game pad starts working again, while in the game, but still won't control HyperSpin.

The only thing I can do is exit HS (via KB) and open it back up again.  Then everything works fine including selecting a game, playing it, and exiting it...Then it starts all over.

I don't know what else to try.

Thanks,

Did you follow spawks Joytokey guide in our tuts section? Sounds like Rocketlauncher is not reloading the HS profile or is it a persistent profile that does not interfere with the emulator?

That is the exact guide I followed.

It doesn't matter which system I load a game from, once I load a game and exit it, I can no longer control HS with the game pad.

I looked at the systray and JTK was CLOSED!

I reopened it, went back to HS, and sure enough, everything worked.

So when I exit a game, JTK is closing for some reason.  Why would it do that?

Thanks for the help!

I can't figure out why JoyToKey is closing when I exit a game.  If I could stop that from happening, everything would be working.

Does anyone have any ideas?

I imagine it's a fault with your default Hyperspin profile or something you missed in RocketLauncher.

I will look at the profile later and see if there is a config i can post.

could you zip up the JTK Hyperspin profile found in C:\HyperSpin\RocketLauncher\Profiles\JoyToKey

Also your Rocketlauncher log which will be in the root of the RL folder. I'll then look them over.

I see immediately your problem, you did not create a HyperSpin default profile as stated in the guide. You supplied a RocketLauncher & UI profile but no HS profile. I suggest you start the guide again.

There is I think a glaring error in the guide which I too fell for. In step 10 Spawk does not tell you to save the profile just "Close/Exit" so maybe that's what you did and you never got a HyperSpin profile.

I have a default, frontend, and rocketlauncher profile.  It says in the guide that the frontend will be called hyperspin, but when I created it, it called it rocketlauncherui.  I have three profiles and just checked.  If I delete them in rocketlauncher and start over, I get the same three profiles and don't see how to rename them.

Is this what you're talking about?

In the actual joytokey program, I have a hyperspin profile and that's what it is called because I was able to name it there.  But in RL I don't see a way to name it.

I have 3 profiles set up, though.

Thanks,

Do you have a link to the guide you're referencing?  The guide I used originally I can't seem to find now and want to make sure it's the same one you're referring to.

Thanks a bunch,

The thing is, it doesn't say hyperspin in rocketlauncher like it does in the guide.  The "frontend" profile is called RocketlauncherUI.  I don't see how to rename that.

The profiles I have under the joytokey tab in RL are _default, Rocketlauncher, and RocketlauncherUI.  There is no Hyperspin.  I don't see how to make one.

I just checked and that is set. :(  Was hoping it was that simple.  While I was waiting on your reply, I did a quick search to see if I could figure it out on my own and came across some folks saying during an update once, they had trouble with their systems.  I saw they had to copy their database folder from hyperspin to the rl folder.  "I" have to do that, too, every time, to get a system to work.  It doesn't do it automatically.  Can that be related?  If not, I don't care, since I know what to do.  But if it's related, it could help??

If I don't copy the database folder from hyperspin to the rocketlauncher folder, my systems don't work.  I have to manually do that.  I don't care and am not necessarily asking for help with it, I'm just saying if it is related to this problem, maybe it tells us something???

Anyway, I've totally deleted and recreated the profiles and followed the guide again.  The only difference between my setup and the one in the guide is that my front end profile is called RocketlauncherUI instead of HyperSpin.  I see no way to change it.  It just pops up and doesn't ask me to name it.

Are you certain this is the problem, because if so, I see no way to fix it. :(

I FINALLY figured it out.  Under general settings/third party - you can set the profile name there.  The generic profile name is RocketLauncherUI.  I changed it to HyperSpin.  Also, use frontend was set to disabled.  Nowhere in any tutorial does it say to set this to enabled.  I did that, too, and finally it works.

Now I still have the one remaining problem where Hyperspin loses focus.  Every time I exit a game, my mouse starts working and another window pops up.  If no other windows are open, the desktop pops up.  I don't see any setting to "always keep Hyperspin [ON TOP] or Maximized or whatever it's called."

Any suggestions for that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
