Hi. I'm working on the front end for my cabinet. I decided to use HS. I would like create a working MAME set for HS. It's been quite a learning curve setting up the front end! In the end I would have probably spent more time working on the front end than building the cabinet and setting up the hardware etc. I have searched the forums for this question but didn't come across anything? Up until a few weeks ago I had no idea that out of the 20k+ roms there are only about 8k that are classified as working. I had no idea about dats, HS xml lists, renaming roms etc. I am still fuzzy on many of those topics. I have an idea how to go about creating such a list but wanted to check with you guys if I am going down the right path before investing too much time. I though perhaps this is the way to do it:

1. Download/update my rom set based on the latest MAME release (in this case 1.53, I have 1.52)

2. Use a tool such as clrmamepro to rename/fix them to match 1.53.

3. Use a tool such as ROMLister or Don's HS tools? to create a MAME.xml filtered to remove non-working (and most likely clones too) games?

4. Use Hypersync to download/update any available artwork etc.

5. Repeat upon each MAME release?

Thanks!

Yes you are correct, although if you've just downloaded a new set I don't see the need to run it through CLRMamepro as it should be correct; source dependent that is.

I would use Hypertools to cull your list or you can normally find a modified xml in brolly's or jumpstiles ftp folders.

Or you could filter your wheel by "Roms Only" but that would mean removing Roms you don't want, handy if your short on space.

Hi. Thanks for the info. I thought you needed to run your roms through a tool like CLRMamepro after every mame release? In case roms had been renamed or to update roms that were listed an non working to working etc?

Space is not an issue. I took a look on the ftp server. I noticed there is a folder with MAME builds. I downloaded one and tried it. I.e.

MAME x64 .152 Cave+NoNag+HiScore+NeoGeoXtra+Autofire+NoBuffer+NeoGeoOverclock+DirectInput.exe

Could you or anyone else explain what all these options are?

Thanks!

You can, depends on your OCD levels :) it's probably good practice to do so. I haven't done it in years, so I could either check them or just download the set again, I don't have issues with bandwidth.

Those are extra's that jumpstile or anyone wishing to compile their own could add.

Get that info here.

Hiscore adds Hi Score support.

NoNag, removes the nag screen before the game starts. Requiring you to press OK.

Directinput, not completely on that one apart from it adds Direct input support, and I can use a mouse for shooting games :)
