Retroarch/Rlauncher save to game help

Haven't gotten much help from the Rlauncher forum yet so thought I might try with you guys. You are all always super helpful and friendly so my thanks up front.

Here is the skinny. I uploaded a game (007 GoldenEye for this example) up on RetroArch through Rlauncher and we are doing great thus far. Game runs beautifully. Getting my new Paper Mario bezel I made to work in that game and feeling pretty accomplished. Tried to create a save file, exit, and see if it stood. It did not. I'd like to express before I go too much further into it I would exclusively like to save as if its the real deal as I plan on making a super console.

With this not working and me not being too familiar with Paper Mario I decided to try 007 GoldenEye as I know it has an autosave feature after each mission you beat. So in comes the GoldenEye conspiracy. I load the game up through Rlauncher, play through the dam level (not the damn level :-D) and back out just to make sure the file is there and saved before escaping out of the game. I relaunch the game through Rlauncher and to no surprise here, I have no saved data. OCD starts to kick in and I search the internet endlessly to not find much information other than what I already thought. It must be my emulator.

Next we test the same situation but instead of going through Rlauncher we go through Retroarch and much like the double slit experiment in quantum physics, my observation changes the outcome. Game saves fine and shows back up when I reload through retroarch.

Now lets go a step further and see if we get an "interference pattern" when we load through Rlauncher and see if my saved game shows up from doing it in just Retroarch. So after this I reload through Rlauncher and surprise, my save game is not showing up when loading through Rlauncher. So once again I go back into retroarch and when I load it through there my saved game shows.

So lets start a quick check list: I only have one copy of the rom. Rom is loading from the same location. The rom is in a 7z file. The save file seems to be going to the 7z file, however, the abnormality I am noticing is it is saving under a SNES extension instead of an N64 extension. I do not think this would be the issue if the emulator is the main source here and it is reading it when not loading through retroarch. Games, bezels, fades, and everything else through rlauncher working fine. No glitches in gameplay. No where can I find anything about what extension to make the save file or anything in Rlauncher about reading save files. I am using the Mupen64plus core. I turned on all memory cards after I saw that I couldn't save in hopes that had something to do with it. Haven't been able to find any other options or magical buttons to make things right. Concidering getting a stand alone emulator instead of using retroarch if I can't get this fixed but not sure that would work since retroarch is still reading the save file just fine and only having the issues through Rlauncher.

So far everyone is telling me it has to be the emulator but I just can't see how if I only have issues through rlauncher. Any other information you need, let me know. I will gladly give it to you guys. Don't know if a log would suffice. I get no error messages. Please save my sanity :-D!

Are you using the in-game save feature? I'm pretty sure you need to use save states instead. When you want to save the game, pause it, go into the rocketluncher in game Pause Menu and save the state. When you want to load it, go back into the Pause Menu and load the state from the available list.

I've been having the same problem as well, I noticed this when I was playing a role playing game on the Genesis, for example Phantasy Star IV, but the in game save file always disappears when I loaded the game again.

I think the reason is because the option "Delete Temporary" is set to True (in Rocket Launcher) so whenever I exited a game Rocket Launcher would delete everything in the temporary folder including the .srm extension file which I believe is the save file for the game.

My work around so far is to not have any games that I want to create save files for to be in 7z format so that the save file is created in the ROM directory rather than in the temporary directory. Another option, I guess, would be to set the "Delete Temporary" option to False so that the files are not deleted after you exit out of the game.
Of course either option isn't ideal because if you're playing CD based ROMs for the PlayStation for example, or if you have a large collection of ROMs then will run out of HDD space pretty quickly.

I haven't been able to work out how to get rocket launcher and retroarch to uncompress the ROMs and lookup the srm file in a different folder and I'm hoping one of the members here can shed some light this.

Appreciate the work around but I'm trying to make it  organic an experience as possible. No save states, just natural saves. Again this works fine with other emulators like project  in conjunction with rl but not with retroarc. Tbh the quality for there n64 seems much lower than p64 but I'm having trouble getting rl to launch it in windowed mode so I can fake the bezel issue.

So you get what im saying exactly. Only thing is is it works fine with other emulators. P64 works fine for natural save. I'm thinking it's more an issue with retroarc. If I wasn't so damn gun ho about using breaks to preserve the natural aspect ratio I would just go with full screen and black bars, but my OCD madness drives me further. Long story short, I think I'm giving up on retroarc.
