Dogway Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 Hello, I would like to know how the release pace of MAME Plus is, MAME 0.153 was released about 2 weeks ago, and almost all front ends got up to date but not MAME Plus, I converted all my romset to 0.153 so while most games still play some don't. Just curious if they follow the main numbering. -I also have some questions. On MAME GUI I could remove joystick support on GUI, can I do the same with MAME+GUI? I can't see anything on options. -How are default keys configured? I edited the file default.cfg inside the cfg folder, but everytime a game crashes (for whatever reason), the default.cfg file is blanked and a custom game .cfg file is created, overriding any future default.cfg I would set. This is something that happens to me since many years ago and the main reason I hate mame so much. I see the default keys reconfigured (through TAB key) after my custom ones are deleted over default.cfg but I don't see the new keys listed anywhere, registry maybe?, should I edit custom keys in registry? PD: Please MIND YOU, I'm not asking how to configure keys (through GUI with Tab, or by filling default.cfg) BUT how to prevent the default.cfg to blank out and reset my keys on a crash, and a new custom game cfg be created automatically. Here my default.cfg (360 pad) and mame.ini: http://www.mediafire.com/download/vlw8ctxad4mzoa2/files.zip
Fromlostdays Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 I can't really speak on the default keys as I have the same problem. I'm using xpadder set up through HyperLaunch which emulates the mame default keystrokes so if the config reverts I'm still golden since nothing has changed. In terms of mameplus, I don't know that any version of Mameplus was released after version 149... and I've looked. So you may be out of luck there, though you can set Mameplus v149 as a system emulator and use that instead of your mame global emulator on games you play a lot if they will run. That's how I have it set up. I need me some supereagle for that Bubble Bobble. Lastly, if you find a more recent version of mame plus, specifically one compiled for no nag and direct input, please let me know. Goodluck, Walter:beerglass:
Dogway Posted April 18, 2014 Author Posted April 18, 2014 I see what you did with xpadder, what a shame right? is that for real? If I'm not wrong there's Mameplus up to 0.152r5119 or so, so it seems to keep up, but I don't know, I expected you would be more knowledgeable than I am, I'm a (relative) noob to MAME, HyperSpin, etc compared to you.
Fromlostdays Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 Don't let my Platinum Membership deceive you. I'm pretty much a noob as well. Walter:beerglass:
lovemaker72 Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 Two things to try. 1) Make Default.cfg read only. 2) Rename it to something else and point your mame.ini at it
32assassin Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 1. your games not loading my have to do with this rompath "..\..\..\ROMS\SNK Neo Geo;..\..\..\ROMS\PCB MAME;..\..\..\ROMS\PCB CPS;..\..\..\ROMS\PCB ZINC" why do you have so many rom paths? romcenter, and CLRMAME pro will rebuild your roms to a single folder your roms should be set like this rom\file name.zip (for all your zipped roms should be in the main roms folder) rom\File name\file name.CHD (each CHD file should be in the roms sub folder in its own folder named the same as the CHD file) their is absolutely no point to have them in their own folder. Even if you make a Main menu entire for SNK NEO GEO, PCB MAME, PCB CPS, PCB Zinc. the rom path you need to add in Hyperlaunch will be the same--> \..MAME\Roms\ 2. MAME auto configures the Default.CFG to whatever joystick you have plug in. if you do not have any of your Xbox controllers the Default.cfg file will go back to the default settings. as mentioned you can prevent this by setting the file to "Read Only".
Dogway Posted April 19, 2014 Author Posted April 19, 2014 @lovemaker72; thank you, I think I will do both at the same time. The issue could be a custom game .ini being created for a game, thus overriding default.cfg or whatever default configuration I set up. Gotta try. @32assassin; I don't know what question you are responding to but I don't have issues loading my games. I have different rompaths for different systems/boards, I think this is better organization than having everything in one place, it has many advantages and little or no drawbacks. For instance, I will play CPS and NeoGeo games with FBA but I don't want to remove them from MAME, with my organization there is no drama. I did the same for Triforce games (they load with Dolphin), unplayable NAMCO PS2, WinXP based Taito X, Model 2 and Model 3, both requiring different emulators. If you don't do like this I recommend you to do. I'm going to try the suggestions above.
32assassin Posted April 19, 2014 Posted April 19, 2014 I converted all my romset to 0.153 so while most games still play some don't. Just curious if they follow the main numbering. I thought this was a question. sorry if I misread. I have my Model 2, Model 3 and Zinc roms in their own folder outside of MAME. Taito Type X games are not included in MAME Those files have been rebuilt using a DAT file for their perspective emulators not the DAT used for MAME. if you can get all your games to work, that's great. that's just not something I would ever consider doing. simply because I can just point any emulator that shares the mame roms or Hyperlaunch to the MAME/roms directory. And they will load just fine.
Dogway Posted April 19, 2014 Author Posted April 19, 2014 I thought this was a question. sorry if I misread. Just saying that I'm aware some games won't work because incompatibilities between 0.153 romset and 0.152 MAME, nothing else. And curious about MAME Plus numbering, will there be a 0.153 MAME Plus, or will it be named after a revision? Just wondering. I play those games in their respective emulators, and they are built with their DAT file, but they play (mostly) fine in MAME; so I have that as a fallback. Zinc roms play in MAME, or do you use any other program? Mind you I don't download all games there exists, only the ones I want, so dividing roms helps you make a clearer picture of the Arcade scene, their emulation process, their graphics, their period, etc. When you play a CPSII game you know what to expect, if you play a Model 2 game you know what to expect, same for Zinc, every board is like a new console so there's no point in including all consoles in one single place. I took Naomi, and divided their games in subfolders for Atomiswave, Gaelco, Naomi Cartridge, Naomi GD-ROM, Naomi 2 Cartridge, Naomi 2 GD-ROM. I also use different folders for Hikaru and Chihiro. This is in my opinion, how it should be done. I couldn't make MAME crash, but I think making the file only readable will be fine. What I couldn't get was to get the game load their custom cfg. I edited sfiiin.cfg with the keys, and made it only readable but the game won't load the mapping.
Dogway Posted April 24, 2014 Author Posted April 24, 2014 An update on this issue since nobody helps me (I barely got useful help on this forum, I really wished this was my one stop place to emulation questions but...): Check this link, more people is looking for it. Actually since revision r5129 version is indeed 0.153. Just needs someone to compile it (which seems is being problematic). As for Zinc, I found a stand alone Zinc emulator called Zinc (very original) with current version being 1.1 but last update is VERY old. Maybe someone can help me further with the main questions I had on mame, namely delete joystick support on M+GUI, and make cfg files behave (not being blanked, or custom cfg files being automatically created).
dougan78 Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 The other thing you can test out is searching for the controller remap utility. You can swap controller configs in and out per game that are saved in your ctrlr folder. Was looking at this and never got it working just half configured. You cold test that out.
dougan78 Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 Kind of but just for mame. Andy at ultimarc suggested it for and issue I was having with my aimtraks but I did not need It. I think it is posted on arcade controls forum. If you search for controller remap utility in google its the first link I believe. Has a zip with instructions.
Dogway Posted May 24, 2014 Author Posted May 24, 2014 OK, I solved many of my initial questions by the hard way. So I will tell here in one substantial post and then follow with a few more questions. The ideal MAME build for HyperSpin is called "MAME .153 x64 NoNag+HiScore+NeoGeoXtra+Autofire+NeoGeoOverclock+DirectInput.exe", forgot who built it, but I got it from the ftp. This will help you among other things to remap keys with xpadder since it removes rawinput (uses directinput now). Necessary or not I also can now map internally with MAME the joystick triggers. Anyways, instead of the default.cfg file that was getting blanked every time, I ended up using a global configuration key inside ctrlr folder, following this guide. I customised it a bit, but that will work most of the time. Now that shouldn't get blanked but in any case make a backup and set it to read only, it won't harm. Then there will be still some games that would need keys specified (more on this later on my questions), simply set them in-game and let them save in the cfg folder, those will get loaded automatically next time. -Is it possible to automatically enable demo sound for all games, or do I have to go each by each enabling them? -Why some games don't read the input settings correctly and need instead a strange line like: <port tag=":MCUP5A" type="COIN1" mask="1" defvalue="1"> On the games with the above issue I also normally get different scancodes, like Start button being JOYCODE_1_BUTTON7 and not JOYCODE_1_BUTTON8, when mapping in-game. -How can I change per channel (rgb) gamma for post-processing on ini. How is the setting called? (it is not exposed it seems) -My MAME HLSL settings look very different from game to game. For example in Tekken3 and Street Fighter EX. The first one gives me issues, more prominent when used on TV with a 720p resolution (then TV scaling up to 768p), scanlines group and become thick dark bars, but in SF Ex scanlines are ok. Can anyone guide me on HLSL to something that makes sense?
Dogway Posted June 5, 2014 Author Posted June 5, 2014 I will add one more question. Is War Gods playable on 0.153? I ask because I have seen many MAME videos of the game, but when I run it I get an error saying c31boot.bin needs redump.
