metroplex2k7 Posted June 7, 2017 Posted June 7, 2017 Ok, so, I'm down to my final few systems. What is the best/recommended emulators to use for: Playstation 1 Sega Saturn (does it still require Daemon Tools to run?) I've tried RetroArch for both to no avail...
Avar Posted June 7, 2017 Posted June 7, 2017 I personally still use ePSXe for Sony PlayStation. It has great compatibility but it isn't as accurate as some other emus, cuz they sacrifice that in order to let you upscale graphics which some people are against. Sega Saturn I think either Yabouse or Mednafen is on top but was under the impression RA did it better. I keep SSF around as well as, last I checked, it was the only emulator to support Sega Saturn's native 12 simultaneous players.
gigapig Posted June 7, 2017 Posted June 7, 2017 Yes Retroarch with the mednafen core is very good for Saturn and PS1 looks best with ePSXe, none require Daemon tools.
metroplex2k7 Posted June 7, 2017 Author Posted June 7, 2017 Ok, so I downloaded and installed epsxe205 to the G:\HyperSpin\Emulators folder. I put the bios (SCPH1001.zip) in the bios folder. Started it up, tried to load "Hot Shots Golf (USA), and the emulators crashes. I made sure the bin & cue were named the same (Hot Shots Golf (USA)) and I used Notepad++ to edit the .cue to match the name of the bin. no luck. So then I tried RA with the espxe core, and it doesn't load. I don't know what else to do...

They need to be extracted and you probably need to run the emulator and point to them. For RA the bios files go in the System folder and there is a special way to do it for the Saturn mednafen core which escspes me atm.
metroplex2k7 Posted June 7, 2017 Author Posted June 7, 2017 Ok, extracted it, deleted the zip. put it in g:\hyperspin\epsxe\bios folder... ran it, system crashed and left my desktop resolution @ 800x600, had to manually change it back. Then tried RA after putting the bios in the system folder, it fades to black, then fades back to RL, no error message or nothing. Maybe psx just wasn't meant to be... Havent tried the Sega Saturn yet...

metroplex2k7 Posted June 7, 2017 Author Posted June 7, 2017 did everything but step one of the module notes for epsxe as the .bin/.cue I'm using has no tracks with it. still crashes, and messes up my resolution...
BATTLEDONKEY Posted June 7, 2017 Posted June 7, 2017 I'm using retroarch for both ps1 and sega Saturn at the moment but I played around with epsxe 2.05 just to test it out and was only getting a black screen at first n couldn't figure out why. To fix it i had to go into the options tab and under CPU overclocking set it to x1 because there isnt a default selected when it's first installed
