Trouble configuring Retroarch

I'm trying to configure Retroarch, per core, for use with my two new Xbox 360 wireless controllers.

I have several controllers connected to my computer, including two WiiMote's, two light guns, a spinner, trackball, and an i-pac 4 board for my control panel.

In retroarch, it sees all of these controllers and has the Xbox controllers set as controller 6 and 7.

I'm trying to configure two players and am starting with Nintendo.

I launch a Nintendo game, press F1, go to settings, input, and bind all the buttons successfully for controller 1 and two.  It successfully changes controller 1 to reflect that it is an Xbox 360 controller, but on Controller 2 it still says it's a WiiMote.

Either way, when I actually go into a game, it sees both controller 1 and controller 2 as controller 1.  Each controller will only control player 1 in a Nintendo game.

Also, the actual controller 1, what I want to be controller 1, isn't having its "A" button recognized so I have to use controller 2 to press "A" so it's all messed up.

I can use controller 2 to play a one player Nintendo Game but not controller 1 since all of its buttons aren't working for whatever reason, and it's the one that is successfully recognized as an Xbox controller!

I really need some help here.  Searching for answers hasn't turned up any useful results so hopefully someone knows what I'm trying to explain here and can help me.

Thanks,

I noticed one of my controllers, they're both named the same (Xbox 360 controller for Windows) is actually able to move selection boxes and when I open a notepad it moves left, right, up, and down.  Is this right?  I don't want this.  I only want it to work in games.  It's the second controller listed that is doing it, but I want this to be player 1.  The other controller, which is identical other than color, doesn't do this??  I open a notepad and move the joystick around (2nd controller) and it doesn't move the arrow like the first one.  What is going on here?

I take that back...I had to restart the computer and now it's no longer controlling Windows 10, which is a good thing.

Still can't get my Retroarch figured out, though. :(

I can't  offer much else other than how do things look in the system specific cfg file? Are your changes showing there?

That file is updating, yes.  Retroarch shows the Xbox controllers as user 5 and user 6 but I want them for player 1 and 2.  It's showing the Wiimote's as players 1-4 but I only have 2 Wiimotes.

I just did the key binding again for user 5 and 6 and went into a game after saving the config and the same thing is happening.  It sees both controllers as player 1 and the "actual" player 1 controller (or what I want to be player 1, at least) the A button doesn't work to select, so I have to use the player 2 controller as its buttons work.  But then when the game asks me to select a player for player 2, neither pad responds??

This is weird...After binding the keys, now the controller is controlling Windows again!!!  All I did was bind the keys in Retroarch but somehow it made the controller control Windows again??

Ok, Joy2Key was running and making it do those weird things... That problem is solved, but I still need help configuring RetroArch.

Can anyone help, please?

Ok, I need to take a break here...I may have gotten ahead of myself.  After ending Joy2Key and re-configuring the controllers for the 7th time, it looks like they are working, albeit backwards (and it matters because they are red and blue to match player 1/2 control panel colors which are also red and blue) but if I can figure out how to get them swapped, I think I'll be in good shape.

Any tips on swapping them would be most appreciated because other than that, I think I'm good to go.
