The HyperSpin 2 early access beta is here!

We’re starting the first public testing phase with Platinum Members to keep the scope manageable while we test the current feature set and begin to add more. In the future, we’ll provide a version for basic members as well.  On behalf of the entire HyperSpin team, we look forward to another exciting adventure with our community.

Removing Hyperspin bezel and games starting on top of Hyperspin

How can I get HS to start games without that bezel and without starting on top of HS? I'd like it to just start games with black borders around it. I have Bezel -> Enabled set to False in RocketLauncher, but it's still showing up. I've attached an image of the issues.

That's really odd... do you have that particular "frame" image named as "overlay.png" or something to that effect? I wonder if overlays will always been shown even if bezels are turned off. File name would have to start with "overlay." Check in your rocketlauncher/media/bezels/MAME/ folder.

Edit: Just to clarify, this is a RocketLauncher feature/issue... nothing overtly to do with HyperSpin.

Yeah. That is weird. It looks like my bezel frame, but with out the background artwork showing. But neither should be showing if you actually have bezels turned off.

I managed to fix it. For some reason, despite having the Global bezel -> enabled setting set to false, I needed to go to the MAME section in RocketLauncherUI and set bezel -> enabled to false as well. I'm not sure why MAME isn't listening to the global settings. Now when I start a MAME game Hyperspin isn't shown behind the game, and the bezel is removed. Also, now that I've seen all the nice backgrounds RocketLauncher provides, I wouldn't mind using them. The issue of course is reenabling MAME's bezel to true will just bring back the bezel and put it on top of Hyperspin again. I've even tried setting Bezel -> enabled to false in both Global and MAME, then setting Use Backgrounds -> true in both. I just want the overlay without having the black bezel around the "screen". I checked the backgrounds and it looks like each game does provide this option. Changing any of the Video Settings within MAME while running a game doesn't seem to do anything either.

If you want the MAME settings to follow Global, you'll need to make sure "use_global" is selected in the drop down.

You'll need to remove the "overlay" image file from your RL bezels folder, then it won't display. You should have one "bezel" file with a matching ini in order for it to work. Try removing (or relocating) everything you have in your rocketlauncher/media/bezels/MAME/ folder, the unzip the attached file into that same folder and launching 1942. You'll see what I mean.

Yours worked! For comparison I deleted your 1942 bezel and readded just the 1942 bezel I already had. It gave me the same issue of the little gray bezel and being put on top of Hyperspin. Here's an image of what I have for my 1942 bezel set.

I'm not sure why mine aren't working. I downloaded them from Metalzoic's mega bezel pack. I wouldn't mind having all the extra bezel options, but I don't know why this pack isn't working while yours is.

And what happens when you cycle through the bezels one to the next etc...

What you have there looks correct file-wise. Hold on and I'll show you what it should look like.

EDIT: Well nevermind. Game DVR can't seem to record the game switching bezels. Probably because it is Rocketlauncher running a layer over MAME and the DVR can only record one program at a time. Regardless your files look right, I tested mine and it's all working, and cycling bezels like it should. Not sure what's up with yours.

I'm sorry but I've been looking everywhere for the change bezel key and I can't find anywhere it's mapped to in the MAME settings or in RUI. Is there a default mapping?

Sorry to double quote you, but I can cycle through the bezel selections. Is there any way to blanket choose which version I like? I'd prefer the background image with no bezel, and if a game is loaded that has no background, default to black. I have save last selection enabled in RUI, but using this would mean I'd have to change every single game manually. Also, I'm not sure if when I was cycling through games, there was supposed to be a version with a background but no bezel. It cycled through one version with a background image but it only had the bezel...no option to remove it. The only issue I have with the bezel is it cuts off the corners, so I can't see how many bombs I have in 1942 for example. Maybe there's a workaround for this without removing it altogether. Otherwise I'd rather just leave it out for now.

Not without either manually setting each game to a bezel or only putting a single bezel into each games bezel folder.

Although I suppose you could possibly mass-delete (or mass-rename) all the bezel files keeping just the backgrounds. It's weird that one of them cycled without the bezel border for you when it's designed not to.
