best mame version for driving games?

Can anyone advise the best mame version for a 3 player driving cab...  I’ve been through loads and can’t find a happy medium.   It needs to have raw input as I’ll be using 3 mice inputs for the 3x 360 optical steering wheels through a UHID.  I’ll be also playing more demanding games like ridge racer and so far I’ve tried an excellent hacked driving cab version (see below) hacked by geecab over at arcade controls forum in 2013 that holds the centre point of the steering and doesn’t allow the centre point to wander even when oversteering,  but it’s an old mame 0.148 and ridge racer won’t run.  Unless I’m using wrong  roms.   

I also need to use the H2Seq for sequential gear shifting in games such as hard driving (the version below already does this)

just cant find any versions that fully fit the bill and I’ve never compiled mame and wouldn’t know where to start  

unless there’s a way to select raw input over direct input without recompiling a new version?  

 

Heres geecabs hacked steering mame 0.148  (this version is raw input as mame sees the mice as mouse X1, mouse X2 etc  the others I’ve used only see mouse X1 as all mouse inputs.  This version like I said above (if you’ve ever played outrun with a 360 steering wheel and oversteered, you know what I mean, It’s useless)   Corrects the steering properly unlike any other version  ie if you oversteer by say 3 turns of the wheel,  you have to turn the wheel 3 turns in the other direction to get the car going straight again.  This version also supports hard driving and race driving for an up / down return to centre sequential gear shifter by mapping gear up to position  1 and gear down to position 2    But it’s an old 0.148 version.  Unless someone can apply these hacks to a newer version then it would be great for anyone who’s doing the same as me...   this is bang on what I need, but in a version that will run ridge racer, California speed etc as this won’t

I think you can set this in newer mame without recompiling...

Nice one,  I didn’t know that. I’ll try that as I downloaded headkaze mame compiler earlier,  couldn’t get it to work, must be doing something wrong.

Would be good if I could compile a new version with the steering hack included (above link) but I can’t find any diff files anywhere for that hack so no idea how you do that without.  Had a go with headkaze mame compiler and can’t seem to get that to work, no idea what I’m doing wrong. 

Is there anyone on here that could compile a new version with this hack?  Would need to be raw input, no nag.
