The HyperSpin 2 early access beta is here!

We’re starting the first public testing phase with Platinum Members to keep the scope manageable while we test the current feature set and begin to add more. In the future, we’ll provide a version for basic members as well.  On behalf of the entire HyperSpin team, we look forward to another exciting adventure with our community.

Some video snaps not showing, despite having them.

Sorry if this has been covered, I just have not found a solution yet.

I have My SNES setup in Hyperspin working great. Roms, Wheel and box art. All showing up perfectly. Most video snaps are working as well.

But probably about 50 snaps are not working. I just get the exclamation triangle icon saying to download from emumovies.com. And it seems to be snaps for more popular titles too. I believe it has something to do with all of the rom revisions I have for each game. I don't understand why I have all those revisions, they just came with the No-Intro romset I downloaded. Also, there are a TON of Roms (Japanese games) that are not showing...But I don't really care about that, just thought it was weird...something to do with the XML I presume.

Anyway, I try changing the file name of the .flv files to match that of the ROM file, but with no luck.

Do I need to edit this information somewhere else?

Thank you.

All files must match your database for that system, this is a typical problem with certain Rom sets. So if the video has a different name to whats on the xml or isn't in the xml then it wont play. Same goes for wheel art, themes, Roms etc. Even down to capital letters.

Thank you for the response. So in my case, I need to go through the SNES XML located in databases, and make sure the rom title matches the video titles?

There was an XML that came with the videos, but when I use that one, all the videos/art work great, but certain roms won't load.

Is there a more automated way to do this? I know of Don's List generator, but not sure if that is suited to what I am trying to do. Thank you.

EDIT: Gigapig, I just watched your video tutorial the other day to setup ZSNES, or as you call it, "Zed Sness" lol. Thanks for the tutorials man, very helpful!

Always always always always rename the roms to match official xmls, rather than renaming the artwork and or xml to match the roms. To get the official snes xml click Hyperbase then Hyperlist on the webpage and find it in the list. Once you have the official xml you have a lot of options.

Start by doing an audit in HyperlaunchHQ. If you only have 10 - 20 missing, it may be easier just to rename the roms by hand. Remember that if they are zipped, you have to unzip, rename, then zip again. (changing the name of just the zip archive will make the game show up in an audit, but you can have trouble launching them.)

My snes roms folder has thousands of roms and the official snes xml only has a little less than 800 listings. So, If you want to make your set "pure" against the hyperspin xml, you should use Clrmampro. It will create a rom set based off your xml while leaving your original set in tact.

MOST, not all, artwork you can find is based on the official hyperspin xmls no intro naming conventions. So start with your roms first, making sure they match. Clrmamepro can be a bit tricky, but if you decide you want to use it I'll help you out.

No problem, and yes zed, I said it correctly, lol ;)

Thanks for clarifying. I think I am actually starting to understand Hyperspin. It's unfortunate that it is so difficult finding matching romsets/artwork/media.... I suppose I need to subscribe to FTP huh?

It's OK, my girlfriend's parents are from Ireland and they say it the same way, and would argue the same thing with me. ;)

EDIT: You say, ALWAYS rename the rom, but what if the Rom matches the current official XML, and it's just, say, a wheel image that doesn't match?

I started with 5 or 6 systems in mind and less than zero knowledge of computers in general, much less scripting etc. I didn't even know what an FTP was. But I said if I could get those five systems working to my satisfaction, I'd donate to the site. You can get a lot more than five systems working without being gold or platinum it turns out, but it was the best money I ever spent. Since then, even beyond how much I've learned, working on Hyperspin has become like therapy to me.

I said always/rather then. :D But yes, if you're roms are where they need to be and you have some artwork that doesn't match the names, then change the names of the artwork. Pro tip example - if you have a wheel image that isn't showing but you know you have the image, open hyperlaunchHQ, do an audit to get the official rom name, open hyperspin. Navigate to that game on the wheel to confirm it isn't showing. Then, navigate out of that system back to the main wheel, open wheel image folder, change name appropriately, then navigate back into the system wheel in question. The wheel image should show. Don't leave hyperspin on the wheel you are changing artwork names for, it freaks it out. For snes, though, there should be plenty of sets available to you that perfectly match the official xml. Its when you get into more obscure systems you start having to wing it.

As long as the XML is official, all artwork, themes etc should match, it's normally Roms that are a problem.

Have a look here to see what is official and what in unofficial/still being worked on.

Therapy? I have been pulling my hair out. No seriously though, it is catching on and I am starting to enjoy it now that I am becoming more fluent with the software. I have since found some fun tools like FatMatch which has been helping me. My Media bundle I think was creating by someone in Europe, hence strange titles and such for the artwork.

Thanks for the help though, I keep telling myself I won't need all those obscure systems.... but of course once I get in deeper I'm sure I will be obsessing over a complete arcade/console collection.

So, No-Intro is what I need to go with, correct? I have a couple No-Intro sets and some of the art still doesn't match, but like I said, the media bundle I got is sort of weird and outdated....Looks like FTP it is! Thanks again!

I use No-Intro without a problem. Go over to hyperlist and download the DAT file (if available) for your system. Then use clrmamepro to filter out any unneeded roms and rename them to match the database.
