Mame List of games

Hi all  

Very new to this.

I have HS and Mame working, no problems  - I am now trying to work out how to customise the appearance.

The 1st thing I am trying to do is remove around 8000++ game names from the Mame game list on the wheel as I am only wanting to run around 150 old Arcade games ( DK, Pacman etc - from that era ) and I really dont need to scroll / roll through 800 game titles to get to one of my games 

I have watched the 10 x Tutorial videos and this isnt explained ( unless I missed it ? ). I have also looked through some forums threads where it looks like this topic might be explained , and the links are broken.

I am assuming I have to edit ( down ) my MAME.xml list - however I am thinking that surely this is not a manual process that would take a month and there has to be a SIMPLE way of generating a MAME.xml from my list of roms??

Any guidance would be appreciated.

their are multiple ways of doing this

you can create a custom MAME XML, that only contains the games you want.

their is no easy way to do this given that no software will be able to tell what games you want.

you can use Dons tools to simply your XML based on certain criteria but it will not give you what you want.

 

NOT RECOMMENDED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

you can use rom filters in HyperHQ,  only add the roms of the games you want to your rom folder  and use the rom filter

(YOU WILL NEED TO ADD A ROM PATH TO YOUR ROMS IN HYPERHQ)

this usually works for most systems but it will not work for MAME given that you will need to add the parent and clone rom of the games.

the parent (puckman) and the clone Pacman will be displayed.

 

easy option

use wheel filters in HyperHQ

ONLY add the wheel images for the games YOU WANT to your wheels image folder in Hyperspin and keep a full rom set for MAME and use the default (FULL)  MAME XML

you do not need to remove any roms from your roms folder, only the games that have a wheel image in the wheel folder will be displayed.

This sounds like a good idea, but if you update the Media when you run HyperSync, won't it download all the missing Wheel Art?

if you only want to have 100 games (or whatever number you have)

why would you sync your MAME system, if you are not adding any games?

HyperSync gives you options to only update specific systems and leave the others untouched

it also gives you options to only download specific media : themes, videos.   You can bypass the wheel media download and get the rest.
