Crator
Hi, I have done some googling and found no straight answer to this. I going to be building my arcade setup soon and wanted to get ahead by setting up Hyperspin, because I probably have a lot to learn. I have not yet built the new computer. Is it possible to set it up on the one I am currently on and then move it to the new one when the time comes? Or would this just be a huge waste of time and I should wait? Thanks in advance for any help.
darkskwirl
I have done this... I actually keep a backup on an external drive at all times. The thing is, you have to remember to put it in the EXACT same location on all computers once you get the settings saved that you want. Also, make sure that the newer computers have DirectX and Daemon Tools installed (if you will be using it of course). The biggest problem I have found is that different PC's have different drives when using DT. That is an easy fix within the emulator. Also, that the resolution may be different, which is also an easy fix. In all, its easy to swap between PC to PC but you have a few things to check. Much easier than doing it all over. The biggest downside, mine takes about 4 Hours to transfer through USB 3. Good luck!
alchimyst
I installed everything (emulators too!) onto an external drive that I just carry around with me. As mentioned above all you have to do is make sure the drive mapping for the external is the same (in my case M:\). Now to address your question I've actually copied it down to a local drive and it took all of 2 .ini edits to get it working and hyperspin was very clear on what was breaking and where to check. Obviously some of the more involved emus will need some tweaking (stuff that actually installs on your system) but that should be very easy to get going. Just make sure everything matches up and you'll be up and running in no time.
Deadly
Depending on what systems you use it's not as simple as changing a few ini's. For instance, any system that requires Daemon tools will also have to match whatever drive letter assignments you previously used. Not only Daemon Tools needing to be installed but Direct X versions, any emulator that writes windows registry, possible fonts, Microsoft Visual studio c++ items etc etc. Depending on what OS you are using, you'll most likely have to fire up every single emulator and remove the check box for"allow program to run". Otherwise your emulator won't start and HL will time out. This is just a small window into what you can expect. The process pretty much sucks to say the least. SIMPLYAUSTIN
Yeah I just did it on one of my systems. Copied it over to another Hard drive. To be honest as long as its going to be a perm setup its not too much work. TO make it simple use the same drive letter and Dir structure. You will still get caught out with all the above and no matter how careful I was with the original setup making the Emus portable I still had to re-install a few due to Regisrty issues and missing folders etc.
darkskwirl
Just an edit... when I put mine on the hard drive, I don't run it there. I have it so that I just place the Hyperspin folder within the C: Root. Just like the original setup instructions have you do. I may be lucky, but I have not have any problems on the 3 machines I have moved it to. Very little tweaking, if any. The only exception was the DT drive path changing, but that's cake! Crator
Thanks a lot for the answers. It's a big help. I will start slowly setting it all up then. I will be keeping the folders right at the root of the C:\ so it shouldn't go to badly. I will watch for any emulators that dump folders in the documents and see if I can carry those over to the correct place to. With some planning I hope to make it smoother. I think only a couple emulators I will be using do that or write to the registry, maybe I will just save those few for when I make the new machine. hardwiredpro
Hi, Anyone in Maryland that can help with this? I have a Hyperspin system on a pc that I would like to use in a cabinet I purchased that has MAME PC inside. I could physically swap PCs but I rather update the PC with Hyperspin and have two systems. Thanks, -MK
