Hi there,

I am trying to complete my ZX Setup, i have a TOSEC set of ZX Spectrum, but have no idea what file format i should be using with Spectaulator 8.0. Is there a difference in the quality of the games depending on format. I really have no idea. So far i have manually renamed 50 or so of the 4828 games on the XML i have. I cant use Dons renamer with that XML for some reason, it errors out on me. Can i use CMP somehow to rename them to match the XML and media? I dont fancy manually renaming 4700 odd roms :dong:

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Ross

When using Dons renaming tool, if your files are zipped unzip them first and try it. If it still bombs out then add 300-400 games at a time. I noticed if I selected too many files at once it'd bomb out.

TZX is preferred according to what I've read because is an actual image of the tape. Z80 is a memory dump. I can't tell the difference but stick to TZX. If not available than Z80 will be perfectly fine as well.

As above - Think of TZX as no-intro. No rubbish, no cracking group front-ends, just a pure replica of original tape image. I'd recommend people stick with this format.

I just did this today. Was fairly painless, thanks to zxspecticle's database from the FTP. It's crc'd, so just use dons renamer, tick only the check CRC box, and point to your tosec set. It should find all but a handful, which you will need to manually download...

I think I used both a Tosec set and a 'World of Spectrum' set and came up only about 8 or 9 short, of which I managed to manually find about 4 or 5 leaving me just a few short. Zxspecticle's database CRCs match mostly .tzx, but also quite a few .z80 file types too.

Edit: the WoS set is on usenet...

I don't see it anywhere so if you could point me to it or pm me an NZB, it would be massively helpful.
