RLBradders26 Posted February 10, 2020 Posted February 10, 2020 A few people have asked me how I create 16:9 themes, so I thought I would share my methods. When I was starting out I couldn't find a guide on how to do it and its just through practise and other user's themes that I figured it out. Hopefully this will help someone... Pre-requisites: Basic Knowledge of HyperTheme Photoshop Adobe Flash Professional CS6. Dark13’s PNG to SWF scripts. (Attached to Post) 1) Gather your source artwork, I usually just used google. The only stipulation is that the background needs to be 1920x1080 (This isnt strictly true but you would need to alter the flash script). If you find a background that is larger but has the same aspect ratio of 16:9 open it in Photoshop and press File --> Automate --> Fit Image… change options to 1920 and 1080 press ok, save the file. 2) Open your Background in Photoshop, the canvas size should automatically be 1920x1080. Drag and drop the rest of your artwork from the source folder into the Photoshop file. Move and resize your artwork (keeping the same proportions) until you get the theme exactly how you want it. Name each layer as to what they would be in Hypertheme. Background, Artwork1, Artwork2, Artwork3, Artwork4, Video. 3) Hide all layers and do the following for each: Background: Unhide just the background and do a file save as to a new folder as save as png. Artwork 1 to 4: Have only Artwork 1 visible, go to Image --> Trim, have top left pixel color selected as well as top, left, bottom right. This will shrink the canvas to the edge of each image. File save as Artwork1.png. Hide Artwork1 and do the same for Artwork2, then 3, then 4. Video: Have only the video layer selected and go to Image --> Image Size, untick constrain proportions and change the width: 1024 height:768. Press ok and go to Image --> Trim, have top left pixel color selected as well as top, left, bottom right. This will shrink the canvas to the edge of the video. Save as video.png. You will end up with the following… 4) Go to the folder where you saved Dark’s scripts, double click on PNG_to_SWF_dark13_1080p_scale_Artwork.jsfl, Flash Pro will open and ask you to select a folder. Select the folder from the above step. The script will convert the artwork and smooth. Once complete your folder will look this… 5) Delete the video.swf file you do not need this. Delete Artwork1,2,3,4 and Background pngs. Open Hypertheme and use the swf files and video.png to create your theme as normal. Give yourself a pat on the back for making a good looking 16:9 theme. This is a very general guide aimed more towards how you convert the artwork. The reason for having to do this is due to the way Hyperspin is 4:3 and stretches to 16:9. If I havent covered anything and you want to ask a question please feel free, I am by no means an expert at this but if we all share the knowledge we have we can collectively produce better content. hErTz Posted February 17, 2020 Posted February 17, 2020 Good info, I also use a method similar to this. I save artwork 1-4 individually as you did but on a 1920x1080 canvas and run them through the PNG_to_SWF_Zero_Dreams_1920x1080_to_1024x768 script. then edit artwork 1-4 in the xml to x="512" y="384" they will be in exactly the same place as you put them in photoshop. handy when using the same video frames as i do for Unified themes
