Can't Exit HyperSpin

Hello,

I have a fresh install of HyperSpin with multiple emulators. I am able to navigate through the HyperSpin wheels without any issues. I can go into systems using Enter, I can select games hitting Enter, I can exit out of a system using Escape. However, I cannot exit out of HyperSpin. I cannot figure out why Escape will not bring up the exit menu.

Most forums point to a mapping issue but I'm using a keyboard at the moment for troubleshooting. Attached is the screen shot where I mapped to Escape. I went into the settings.ini and confirmed Esc is present as well. Is that the correct setting for exiting the program or is that stored somewhere else?

I found another forum that discussed a focusing issue. However, same behavior if I start HyperSpin and then immediately try to Exit. It doesn't lose focus on startup. What makes it stranger is I can exit from a system to the main wheel but not out of the actual program.

Any ideas what is prevent HS from exiting?

Thank you for all your support!

Make sure "Exit HyperSpin" is enabled.  I have the exit menu disabled in this pic so HS just closes immediately but you should enable the menu as well if you want a Yes/No prompt:

Hey @Spawk, I have toggled this setting and still cannot exit. I have also mapped exit to a random button to see if that would work and no luck. Can't seem to understand what would be preventing HS from exiting... Untitled.thumb.png.ef52b17299775b63592730eebdc11ee0.png

Hmmm, if changing the settings in the GUI doesn't seem to be "sticking" I would be inclined to believe that the HS settings.ini is read only or something.

Does the ini reflect the correct value?

@Spawk, that's it! That was the setting. For some reason it was false. That's so weird. I've updated other settings through Hyper HQ and they have stuck... Not sure what was special about this one.

Thank you very much!

Sorry to hijack this thread but i'm having a similar issue.  Followed the tutorial and it works great when i launch HS.  I can navigate and I only have 1 system set up at the moment - Nestopia.  Using xbox360 controller with only button 10 mapped to exit in the nes profile for joytokey.  When I click it, it exits and brings me back to frontend but controls no longer work.  Nestopia is in fact shut down however.  If I kill HS (via keyboard) and launch back in, it goes back to normal.  Any thoughts on what might be messing with me?

All apologies... figured it out.  Had forgotten to set the default profile name on the gloabal\3rd party section.  Sorry for the false alarm and thanks again for the great tutorial.

Sounds like a classic "focus" issue. You can't input to just any open window, it has to be the currently selected window. So in essence the emulator isn't closing cleanly... or HS wasn't the last window to have "focus", like something altering the "tabbing" order???

To confirm this is the case, next time try clicking with a mouse somewhere on screen and see if the controls become responsive again in a second or 2.

RocketLauncher has a setting called "Restore Frontend On Exit" that may help if this is the situation:

There are two options: "Restore" and "Restore and click". There is also a "Suspend Frontend" just above that. A combination of these settings might work.

You should probably first check to make sure you have HS selected as the default plugin and active FE, ect... so RL knows where the focus should go when exiting a game:
