The HyperSpin 2 early access beta is here!

We’re starting the first public testing phase with Platinum Members to keep the scope manageable while we test the current feature set and begin to add more. In the future, we’ll provide a version for basic members as well.  On behalf of the entire HyperSpin team, we look forward to another exciting adventure with our community.

Where are the settings stored?

Question

Posted

I uninstalled HyperHQ

I deleted my HyperHQ folders on C:\ and D:\  (because of the multiple install bug)

I deleted HyperSpin folder on D:\

When I reinstalled HyperHQ, it still had my login info cached, and the MAME system was still there (which I'm having problems deleting because of the auto-import rom bug)

Where is the cached configuration hiding?

Why can't all the configuration settings be stored alongside the app and basically be portable like every other front end system?

Honestly, this is a straight deal breaker for me.  When I click "uninstall" there shouldn't be any configuration left.

Trust me, we are on day 4, it's going to get better by the day.  Great feedback here.

100% get it, that's why I'm invested into it. I'm trying to catch these early and quickly to report it.

Ok, I found the 'left over' config

Had to deleted the %appdata%\hyperhq folder

My credentials were still cached somewhere else even after I deleted the %appdata%/hyperhq folder.   So there is lingering stuff somewhere else.

I'm still calling this a deal breaker at this point.   I do not want my front end config stored in %appdata%.   There is no logical reason for this.

I have five machines running Launchbox today.   I started on HS 15+ years ago.  I often move media around, playlists, themes, all sorts of stuff for various reasons, quickly and easily.   (two standup arcades, one 'console' on the television, and then a daytona twin cabinet - oh and a VPin running PinUp Popper).  And because there is something wrong with me, I'm actually considering building another.  lol

This new HyperSpin model seems to make the entire system non-portable.  And goes to great lengths to accomplish that.   And its even tattooing the system after I press the uninstall button.  <not cool>

I dumped rocketlauncher around the same time I moved to launchbox, due the fact that RL changes random stuff on your system and doesn't tell you.  Pissed me off that someone was arrogant enough to assume they knew how I wanted my emulators configured.  Nope!

To continue this...

I guess HHQ doesn't like it when you "delete" a system like Mame (because I changed my mind on what I wanted in my wheel (get rid of casino, mahjong etc), and installed Mame again. NOTE: Delete process went on for more than 6 hours still saying deleting and finally exited out.

I selected "skip all clones" then check the skip "***" roms... and it appears to add a second layer, in my case 3-4 layers because I was messing around with features and ticks, and I get this... *picture provided*

Multiple instances of the same roms, clones included and titles I skipped. I also hit refresh and let HHQ do its thing, then I loaded up HHQ one last time and you see in the picture what shows up.

How and where do I start from scratch and delete the multiple instances.

I know this is in Beta, I'm patient as you guys have a lot on your plate.

Thanks for any advice or suggestions.

So I found these file locations. To do a fresh install, all of these have to be removed. The uninstall seems to only remove the primary HyperHQ.

  • Mine was located under C:\Users\<System Name>
    • There's 2 files .HyperHQ and .HyperSpin
  • also C:\Users\<System Name>\AppData\Roaming
    • There's 2 files HyperHQ and Hyperspin
  • Default Hyperspin location
    • C:\ProgramData\HyperSpin
  • lastly
    • C:\Program Files\Hyperspin

If you find anymore, let me know.

I don't disagree at all.. I had to do a fresh install. It seems the only time I can trigger the autoinstall of the emulators is on the initial setup. Afterwards, it's all manual.

Good find.   I missed the .hyperhq and .hyperspin folders in the root of my \user\ folder.

Found another one.

c:\users\<username>\appdata\local\hyperhq-updater

Maybe not a big one affecting it working, but that appears to be where the update file gets stored at. Great find!

I deleted the .exe in crashdumps, but the folder of D3DSCache, that's foreign language to this computer guy's eyes lol Not sure other than date modified would I even want to attempt to delete those files except the last 4 days dated.

I hope updating this thread is ok with progress?

So, after deleting the files and folders and starting from scratch I still get some duplicates, you'll notice the boxart is different but the same game (picture below).

MAME version 0.273

I skipped clones, skipped all except for Playchoice (gotta have me some RC Pro-Am lol)

How would I remove a duplicate in the current setup, should I choose to do so?

Yes for now.. I have requested in the Developlment tracker and mass deletion option.

Side note, even if you delete the rom file (or rename it) it'll still show here. If you rename it, it may add another instance. You still have to manually delete the old file. For MAME (should be turned off) don't update it. It could add the remaining roms to it. They're working on that now.
