Seeing as Hyperspin has decided to discontinue Hyperspin 1.5 and therefore it’s just going to sit on a computer alone for all eternity , why can’t you now make it Opensource ?

The new Hyperspin 2.0 has no similarities to it either.

At least then the people who still love to use it can see it improved to run at high resolutions etc.

if not, can someone just take a look at it to see if it can be upgraded to 1920x1080 while we wait for Hyperspin 2.0 to get to any kind of working level.

IMO it will be years before it’s running anywhere close to 1.5 (if ever)

Sorry, but there is no use in making it open source... This has been said before, but HS 1.x was built using AS3, Flash, and several third-party non-open source plugins. Even if we were to release the source for HS, the third-party plugins necessary are no longer available. Without these plugins being available, it would require a complete re-write of the whole HS engine... that would take as long, or even longer, than continuing with HS2. We, and the dev team, couldn't do anything with HS1 code even if we really wanted to.

Instead of fighting and trying to work around old coding and tech, HS2 is the way to go. Anyone is more than welcome to keep using HS 1.5 until they are willing to switch to HS 2.

Hyperspin 2.0 is not Hyperspin anymore.

By tying it all up behind encryption, no xmls , all having to use the same themes, can’t backup your files , it’s not portable and on and on is the reason why I want Hyperspin 1.5 updated instead.

At best it will just be another Launchbox and that has a 7 year head start on Hyperspin 2.

I bet if you had asked all your members what they wanted before you started Hyperspin 2 as it is , 90% would have said to rewrite Hyperspin 1.5 and keep it all as it was with improved resolution etc

To not just upgrade Hyperspin 1.5 (which still to this day is THE GOAT of front ends) and go in another direction instead is just unbelievable.

I have been a member for over a decade and have all fronts including Launchbox. None come close to Hyperspin.

I hope I am proved wrong and Hyperspin 2 surpasses 1.5 , but I can already see it won’t.

ps,

Thanks for the reply

I agree.
I think by saying "there is no use because...it would be a lot of work to update xyz"...that you're already deciding for someone else.
There are many that don't agree with the direction that HS2 is going and has frankly killed the spirit of what this community was.
I have only been paying a bit more attention to HS2 again because I have hit performance roadblocks with Launchbox and there are frankly many annoyances with Launchbox that I just cannot look past and they are ALSO refusing/incapable of fixing or are starting to implement paywalls for things.
HS2 is incredibly underdeveloped...and removes the control of individual assets to more of a hivemind type ideology. I'm sure it's great if you're on the control side of the fence, but If i just wish to remain an occasional contributor and build my own system and have it work the way i want it to, this is more of a raping and pillaging of an already established community that was never prepared for such a thing.
I'm caught in the middle of both of these enhanced platform and have frankly ended up with a mess, to the point where i can't game or use either platform at all.... I'm deep into converting from HS1 to launchbox and the way it wants to do things and HS2 is under developed and ALSO working in ways that do not facilitate a place for an individual to make their own setup. The direction of this seems to be wanting to just streamline incompleteness.

It only seems logical that if there is a group of people that want to take HS2 in a different direction and it's not what a lot of people in the existing community want, then HS1 should be allowed to be reverse engineered so that the community can successfully split from here, because it already isn't what a lot of people want.

Many have turned to these communities to satisfy some void that can't be fulfilled in their day-to-day job it seems that the current drivers are just capitalizing on that which violates the very thing that most people are trying to get away from. This was an escape, and now the current drivers have turned it into the same prison that already existed in our day-to-day lives.

It starts with the cold hard fact that none of ya'll holding the keys aren't listening when people are telling you 'HEY THIS IS NOT A GOOD DIRECTION, YA MISSED SOME SHIT'

A few big ones is not making HS2 100% portable and enforcing a cache file to exist in the app data folder.
another one, renaming of artwork assets into a incoherint database entry instead of leaving the file name as-is and focusing on complete packs based on region....launchbox kinda screws the pooch on this as well because they seem to think that NES and famicom are the same thing....they are not. Or Nintendo Game & Watch and Tiger electronics are the same thing...they are not. It's those little nuances that seem to start the destruction of both of these platforms.

You're right that HS2 is underdeveloped right now. The capabilities of the new system are also underestimated.
