Recordguy Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 Hello, Can someone post a link to setting up Stella as an Atari 2600 emu? I've set up MAME but am having trouble with Stella. I'm sure there's a step-by-step somewhere but cant seem to find it. Thanks!

craiganderson Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 do you have STELLA up and running outside of hyperspin? http://craigandersonthemes.weebly.com/
Recordguy Posted September 6, 2014 Author Posted September 6, 2014 Yes. I have it running outside of Hyperspin. I've placed Stella in a folder titled "Atari2600" inside of "emulators" folder. I launched HyperHQ & added the new item with the wizard. I also set the "executable"path to Stella in "wheel settings". I then launched HyperlaunchHQ and assigned Stella to both the global & Atari 2600. I also created the ROM path under the emulators tab. Everything is setup the same as I set up MAME. However, when I try and run an audit nothing shows up. When I try to access the Atari 2600 wheel in Hyperspin I get nothing. What I seem to be missing is a rom database I believe. If so, I'm not sure where the databases are located for consoles that are not pre-loaded into the software. The MAME rom database was already loaded but since the 2600 is from the ground up I don't seem to have this yet. Could that be it? Thanks again!
Recordguy Posted September 6, 2014 Author Posted September 6, 2014 After discovering what 'Hyperlist' was I placed the 'xml' file into the Hyperspin database folder and was able to run an audit in HyperLaunchHQ & launch by clicking the 'rocket' icon. So far, so good. However, when I'm in Hyperspin and choose the Atari 2600, it loads Stella instead of the game rom wheel I'm used to seeing in MAME. I must have missed something somewhere.
Recordguy Posted September 6, 2014 Author Posted September 6, 2014 Ok, when I'm in Hyper HQ I notice that unlike all the other consoles, Atari 2600 has nothing under the wheel settings tab. When I click on 'Wheel Settings' & choose Atari 2600, the 'emulator' tab opens with some info (no rom path to set, like in MAME, just the 'executable', and all the other tabs are blank with the message "This tab doesnt not apply to executable only Main Menu items".
Polemicist Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 There is the magic word. You said in "Hyper HQ" I'm gonna assume you haven't followed a tutorial on how to setup HyperSpin... You May find it much easier using HyperLaunchHQ. Read the tutorial or watch Gigapigs videos ... take ya pick.
pinsanity Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 Ok, when I'm in Hyper HQ I notice that unlike all the other consoles, Atari 2600 has nothing under the wheel settings tab. You have set the Atari 2600 system up in Hyper HQ as an executable program, when it should be set up with a sub wheel. In HyperHQ (big green button icon), go back to the Main Menu wizard again, remove Atari 2600 from the database only and then add it back using the wizard again this time choosing the option which has "does this system have a sub wheel?" Then it will give you the option of setting the rom path and the rom file extensions.
Recordguy Posted September 6, 2014 Author Posted September 6, 2014 Thanks for the info everyone! Polemicist, you're right. I did follow a good tutorial on setting up MAME but couldn't find one for seting up consoles from scratch that didn't have databases already loaded and such. Thanks for the lead to Gigapigs videos. Pinsanity, I must have hit the wrong button and picked the executable program by mistake. That solved that problem. Thanks again!
