cfoote7 Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 Hey Everyone, This is my first time posting in here, I downloaded and started working on hyperspin last week with a lot of success, I'm confused how people take months to set this up. It's not too complicated. With hyperlaunch and some other tools it seems quite intuitive, I currently have my setup with a couple of xbox360 controllers, until I'm able to purchase parts for building an arcade controller. I've found a few programs to map the guide button but every-time I use any of them I run into the same problem. If I map ESC to any of the buttons with xpadder I have no issues, everything closes fine and hyperspin regains focus. However, when I use any of the three programs I've found to map the guide button to ESC weird things happen. For example I close snes with the guide button and zsnesw minimizes instead of closing and it appears that hyperspin gains focus but the controls won't work unless I alt-tab back to hyperspin. I find myself needing to alt-tab to zsnesw, press the guide button again and it closes, then alt-tab back to hyperspin. Now, if I map the ESC key to something else using xpadder instead, for example I've been using the button built into the right digital joy stick, everything works fine. Zsnesw closes smoothly and hyperspin regains focus. I feel pretty comfortable with the AHK files, so if it's something that needs to be setup in the AHK then I'm cool with that. I've been racking my brain on this for the last week and it's driving me crazy, It actually took me a few days of plunking around to find out that it's the guide button causing the issue, somebody else has to have experienced this and found a work around. Thanks for your help, Chris
gigapig Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 Welcome to the forum Chris. Are you using Pinnacle Profiler to map the guide button? I know that does it. It sounds like your only having issue with zsnesw, have you read the module notes for that emulator. If I remember correctly you have to do something in the config or ini file with regard to closing the emulator. Failing that try another emulator. Really you shouldn't use esc to close emulators, as some use esc to switch between windowed and full screen. The best thing to do is set an exit emulator key in HLHQ. Check this post out which I posted today about that very thing. http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/forum/showthread.php?37590-A-bit-overwhelmed-where-to-start&p=350217&viewfull=1#post350217
cfoote7 Posted November 11, 2014 Author Posted November 11, 2014 yeah, I'm not at a hundred plus items yet I have about 30 submenus on my menu, but I did that in less then a week and three of those days were spent trying to perfect a single item, now I've got a process and can add a new pc or emulator submenu in about a half an hour. I've got pretty good with the AHK as well but it probably helps that I'm a professional hardware programmer. That's why this guide button problem is so incredibly frustrating, I hate asking for help and love giving it. I'm one of those annoying people with a big ego and a diy attitude. I'm willing to say now that I am stumped. For the moment I'm just running it without the guide button, I have the computer set for dual boot and one of my partitions boots to a shelled version of windows 7. I have it setup so that unless you plug in a keyboard and hold Ctrl-Alt-Delete you'll never even see windows. it's also UEFI with a custom boot logo and post information set to silent so I mean you turn that thing on and it boots directly and seamlessly to hyperspin, then if you want to configure it tap delete after powering the computer on and it'll give you options to go to my other OS where I do all the hyperspin setup.
cfoote7 Posted November 11, 2014 Author Posted November 11, 2014 Thanks for the reply Gigapig, it does appear that zsnesw is the only one I've noticed having that issue. It's strange though cause I setup the zsnesw.ini to exit on esc and it works when I press it on a keyboard or if I have ESC mapped with xpadder. I know a lot of people actually setup an exit key in the emulator. with hyperlaunch that's not entirely necessary since it has the ability to tell windows to kill a process. either way though I do have zsnesw setup to exit with escape. I'm considering mapping another key, I just don't want to change it in my other programs, I have to have a unified escape key since I can't control the guide program with hlhq and that's a lot of resetup to do but unfortunately it may be my only option
damageinc86 Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 Yup, I mapped the guide button with pinnacle profiler and never had anything weird happen.
