I always use Camtasia Studio pro. Never had any issues

Open Broadcasting Software. Free, open source, and I haven't found anything it can't capture from yet. Fraps and Playclaw would straight up not work with certain games and emulators. With OBS you just have to figure out if you have to use window, game, or monitor capture for each program. If one gives you blackness, one of the other two should work. You set it to File Output Only in Broadcast settings to make local recordings.

I've used it to show off my

at 60fps. It came out pretty smooth, but I imagine it would have been smoother if I had a better CPU and/or a newer Nvidia card with an onboard encoder (which OBS can use in the Encoder settings, Nvidia NVENC).
