PCGaming247 Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 I have been trying to create cystom xml list using Dir2XML, HyperROM2XML and Hyperlist, however; when I make a list using Dir2XML and upload it to hyperlist to create the hyperspin xml it out puts just the first 2 lines <?xml version="1.0"?> <menu> </menu> when i use HyperROM2XML the file structure looks right but isnt. Like when I go to do an audit in hyperlaunch hq it says "Error parsing database file, make sure the xml is well-formed" Can someone help please, to add 100s and 1000s of games to an xml by hand would talk forever. If there is another tool for this that works that would be amazing.
brolly Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 Probably those tools aren't properly adding the & characters as they should be added as & on XML files. You can generate the XML files directly from HLHQ (Emulators tab), you don't need to use any other tools for that. Just make sure if you have the proper file extensions set on your emulator as well as the rom paths.
8BitMonk Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 Try MAWLER. It won't create a list from a directory of roms but you can start with a full mame list and then filter by any of the main criteria (ie. game type, control type) and save as a Hyperspin xml. http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,136193.0.html
PCGaming247 Posted January 14, 2015 Author Posted January 14, 2015 I for some reason never saw that button, I cant believe I missed that wow it works great now I can just use my HLHQ. will it work with disk based systems that have duplaicts, like with dreamcast having cue, bin, img, iso, and so forth? As for MAWLER i dont see the download like looks nice tho id like to see what it can do but where is the dl link i only see the one to maws2

Yeah it will, as long as you have the correct rom extensions and paths set on the emulator of course. Give it a shot.
PCGaming247 Posted January 15, 2015 Author Posted January 15, 2015 cool thanks again, i did it for MAME 157 and omg i went from 9120 games to 23000, i switched it back cause it wasn't using the right names any more, but it was cool to see how many games where really in that huge file I got all MAME 157 and MAME 156 CHDs too, 395gb, and after I added the CHD, my rom count only went up from 9105 to 9120, I new they where there and that clrmamepro said i had way more just didnt realize it was the xml. I used it on most everything else and works great beside on MAME and NEOGEO I think thats because it uses the names of the files and for those 2 systems they have their names shortened, i mean it still worked, just the names for the most part are not something most people can understand clearly.
brolly Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 Don't use this for MAME because it will add every single ROM including non-playable games and bios which will only clutter your wheel, also bare in mind this is doing databases the lazy/fast way because stuff like year, manufacturer, etc. won't be filled the only thing it will be filled is the game name and description. You're always better off using a proper XML from HyperList.
PCGaming247 Posted January 15, 2015 Author Posted January 15, 2015 thanks for your help and I am still using the xmls from hyperlist I just used the created xml from HLHQ and copy pasted the added roms to the hyperlist xlm seems to be a bit quicker then adding each of them normaly, however; I still have to go back and edit the xml with all the info I can find, like with my sega cd collection, but luckly the set I downloaded from pleasuredome came with info files for each rom so now all I gotta do is add the crc's data and manufacture and all that to the roms that I added, but still any time saved is goooood . Is there any where that has a collection of info for arcade builders, like crc'c datas and all that, so I can manualy build the xmls properly?? The thing I am not looking forward to is setting the genre for each file then adding them to the genre list for that one and so on, its alot of back and forth. This is a lot of work but its so fun, and with every change you get to see a progress. Sry for my rant thanks again.
8BitMonk Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 As for MAWLER i dont see the download like looks nice tho id like to see what it can do but where is the dl link i only see the one to maws2 maws2.zip is the correct file. You'll also want to gather up the supplemental mame files containing info on the controls, number of players etc. before you begin. You can find them with a web search. See below:
brolly Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 MAME dat files should work you should also be able to find dats for other systems pretty easily, but you can't use the CRC for games consisting of multiple roms anyway, in fact there's no need to fill the CRC tag at all so I wouldn't waste time on it.
