stillcore
Hi, I recently built a new cabinet and am using a CRT tv for my monitor (S-Vid input). I'm unhappy with the resolution so am looking into purchasing a Makvision 27/29 CRT for a truer arcade feel. Can someone please explain the benefits (or non) of purchasing a VGA5000 card to go along with the monitor. I've read that's the way to go in hopes of achieving the perfect arcade resolution. I'd like to know if the card is necessary, what would happen if I just ran the Makvision from my computers current video card via VGA? Also, lastly, will other emulators (NES, Sega, Daphne) also benefit form this costly $600 upgrade? ha ha Thanks in advance, everyone!
Mrmikey73
I have the arcade vga card on my 25 inch crt monitor. It looks awesome as far as resolution. The only thing you may want to consider is it doesn't run ps2 and gamecube very well.
stillcore
Thanks for the feedback. I'm not too concerned with GC or PS2, honestly. I'm looking more towards having the correct resolution on the older systems. So it looks good with NES, Sega, TurboGrafx, Daphne, etc...? Oh, and was it an arcade monitor you're using? stillcore
Sounds good. I ordered the Makvision 27/29. Should have it tomorrow. Hope it's smooth sailing, and I don't run into convergence issues I've read about.
rdhanded2
I have a Makvison 27/29 It is my 2nd one. They replaced the first one due to so many issues and this one has already taken a crap on me. Just not been happy with it at all and would never purchase again. jtslade
I have Arcade VGA3000 hooked to a Nanano ms8-26su 25" arcade CRT . Totally worth it and amazing upgrade from SVideo. As in you will never use Svideo again in your life.
stillcore
What type of issues were you running into? I'm hooking it up today, as the power cable ships separately for some reason.... Really hoping I'm lucky and don't have to return/exchange it as it's super heavy and was a pain to get into my cabinet.
rdhanded2
My neck board went out 2 times. Well, was bad out the box, they sent me another one and when it went it blew it took out the IC chip, some caps, etc with it. They said it was a known problem and replaced the whole thing. Lasted a few weeks and blew. I repaired it and took it out and it is just sitting. Was a waste of $. I since then started working for Namco and we repair these constantly. Just crappy monitors. stillcore
Damn, that doesn't make me feel too comfortable about having bought it. Hopefully, I'll be one of the lucky ones. I've read a LOT of mixed reviews about people either loving them or hating them. Thanks for the feedback. I'll let you know how it goes.
