Hi All,

Sorry to post a help message, I have tried my bestest to complete my hyperspin setup without asking for any help but I am stumped now. I have managed to get 9 emulators all working with hyperspin/launch with artwork etc and thought I was doing well until setting up the NEO GEO emulator I have become stuck.

I have tried winkawaks, setting it up exactly like I have for megadrive, snes, 3DO etc and I get hyperspin to load it but where I have always managed to get the roms recognised by matching files to the names in each database xml etc I can not get any of the NEO GEO roms to be recognised. I have tried them as zip, with zip added to HQ etc like I did the others but nothing. I even tried the files through MAME but again they are not recognised even though the file names match up to those on the databases other than the games titles that include a / as windows will not allow you to put a / in a file name so not sure how to get round that because the database name has a / in the discription.

I have googled and looked through the forum but not come across this specific issue. I have double and triple checked that I have done everything that was required for setting up the other systems so any help on this would be really appreciated.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and hopefully can sort this out as would love to get the Neo Geo system working on my wheel.

Welcome to the forum.

You say you added the zip extension to HQ, which HQ, Hyper or Hyperlaunch?

That / thing sounds like a dodgy DB, where did that come from?

Oh, and there is no need to apologize for posting to get help.

If you have a complete MAME set then they will match up with the Neo Geo database on HyperLaunch I believe.

Thank you Gigpig for a warm welcome, I am using the latest HQ/HL and the file is the Neo Geo database XML (version .141 by William Strong) that comes with the HS download. here is an example of one of the games within it that has the / in the description name,

game image="3" index="true" name="3countb"> <description>3 Count Bout / Fire Suplex</description> <cloneof/> <crc>9036d879</crc> <manufacturer>SNK</manufacturer> <year>1993</year> <genre>Sports/Wrestling</genre> <rating>AAMA - Yellow (Life Like Violence Mild)</rating> <enabled>Yes</enabled>

Tonesmalone& barakawins I will try your advice this morning and see how I get on,

Thanks for your advice guys will update in an hour or so

Cheers

Well, I have tried again this morning and still have difficulties, for some reason what ever I re-name the roms in the Neo Geo too they will not show up even though they match the game description. I then tried to run the games through MAME and I did have small success of the games actually showing up in MAME but then when I go to run one through both MAME directly and through Hyperlaunch I get the missing roms error message. I have read through many other user issues with this but remain stuck. I have mame 155 and I have ensured the latest BIOS etc but the games stil would not work. My next step is I'm going to try a different rom set maybe not sure if I need these CHD files etc that I have read. Anyway will see how I get on over the next few hours. Any pointers on this would be appreciated,.

Neo Geo really shouldn't be causing too many problems as the mame roms contain a complete set - which are already named correctly. Make sure 7z support is off as MAME likes the zips directly and as said point your Neo Geo rom folder to your MAME roms and use MAME as the emulator for this system.

You will need the CHDs for the games that need them, however this won't stop the roms for showing up they just won't work and you will get an error from MAME.

If you need some more help on this one send me a pm. I should have ten mins today for a teamviewer remote support if you need.

Thanks tonesmalone, that is very kind of you, I have managed to get a liitle further, following your advice of making Neo Geo use mame emulator etc I can now see the games showing up, well a few anyway, and the two games i'm playing with also show up on the Neo Geo wheel now, however when I select one the screen goes blank and returns me to the wheel. First thing I did then was to try and run a game straight from the emulator (MAME) but I get the roms missing message. However these are the same roms that launched with no problems in NEO Rage. I've downloaded what I think is a up to date bios and placed this in the same folder as the roms. Where is the option to turn the 7z support off?

Thanks again

Are you using HyperLaunch? If so its in the HLHQ settings. Though by the sounds of it you need to acquire a better rom set. Also make sure that the version of MAME you are using matches the roms set version.

Aye sounds like it, MAME is very particular about the make up of those zip files.
