dislecksea
I have only recently returned to the hobby. I am updating my Mame and read about Jumpstile's builds and thought I would give them a try. I noticed that some of his builds have "DirectInput". I did some searching and found lots of people talking about it, so I was able to glean that it has to do with controllers. However, I didn't find a clear statement of what DirectInput is and how having it in your build differs from regular Mame. I am guessing that I probably don't need it, whatever it is, but would appreciate someone taking the time to educate me as to what it means just for my personal knowledge. Thanks Dislecksea
gigapig
I'd like to know as well, all I do know is that it appears to allow you to use a mouse to control the light gun games.
marxkemp
MAME uses DirectInput in RAW mode. This is necessary to properly support multiple of each device (e.g. 2 USB keyboards, or 4 mice, or 2 lightguns, etc) but it also means there's no way to inject keypresses unless you're an actual device with a Windows driver.
