Questions - Starting over with control mapping / Should I upgrade

So my arcade cab computer crashed and the drive was corrupted so I am starting out mostly from scratch.

Windows 7 64 bit

PC Monitor Crossfire 2560x1440

Nvidia GT640

USBLinx inside converted Ultracade cab (this converts my buttons to keyboard presses)

I was able to salvage a lot and I have everything complete with art and videos and all launching pretty much correctly. I have the following issues and I am wondering if I should upgrade Hyperspin / Hyperlaunch or if that is going to be more trouble than it is worth? Everything I had was from around 2010 so its all v1.0 I believe and I have no memory of how I setup.

My issues are:

MAME - none, everything runs and loads correctly, no control issues

Demul - I am on .56, everything runs and loads but I am having issues with the controls working when launched through hyperspin. There is a lot of info out there, not sure what is correct. I have all of my controls correct in padDemul.ini and I guess I am supposed to copy them somewhere? I have games setup in the settings.ini as "standard" or "driving", etc so do I create a STANDARD_padDemul.ini and copy to that and where does it go?

Atomiswave - same version, same issues, I would assume solution is the same?

Model 2 - everything runs and loads correctly, controls work once I set them up outside of Hyper but it appears I have to setup each game individually?

Model 3 -everything runs and loads correctly, controls work once I setup (I didnt do everything yet)

Zinc - everything runs and loads correctly, controls work outside of Hyper but not if I launch with Hyper.

I am very afraid to upgrade Hyperspin and Hyperlaunch for fear that I am going to create a much bigger configuration headache than I already have (since everything is running fine but needs controls configured)? Are the newer versions really very user friendly and where would I start? Is there a way to upgrade without losing everything? Can I map all of my odd USBLinx mapped keystrokes (it is mostly number and letters plus Ctrl, Alt, etc) and how?

Random Issues:

How can I map the ESC key to a combination of keys? Right now I have Mame and Hyperspin set to exit with a button combination on my cabinet but I cannot do the same for the other emus? I figure if I can map the ESC key to a combination press I can remedy?

In Toy Fighter there is a special move involving pushing three buttons at once, this seems to give Windows problems, is there a Windows setting I should adjust?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Your not doing anything wrong, Sometimes we miss posts, but my recommendation is to update your hyperspin and hyperlaunch. Hit you tube and watch a few of Giga Guides and the new hyperlaunch there are alot of great features you will absolutely love.

Yes upgrade to the latest hyperlaunch. It's much easier to add systems compared to many years ago.

In hyperlaunchhq which you will become familiar with you can easily map new exit keys regardless of the emulator.

most of your questions and problems are specific to your hardware. very few people use USBlinx.

their is no option to upgrade Hyperspin from 1.0 to the latest version; you will need to set up EVERYTING from scratch.

keep your current set up and install a new version of Hyperspin in a secondary computer. Once you have everything sorted; repeat the process in your arcade setup.

And trust me the trouble you will go through is well worth it.

having the ability to map multiple keys as your ESC sequence is one of them. Not many people will know how to do that with Hyperlaunch 1.0

Model 2 = each game needs to be set individually, Model 2 has driving, shooting and joystick games. they all need their own key mapping.

what combination of keys are causing windows problems?

the only problem I had was with the service keys, When I got the error a window popped up asking if I wanted to disable that windows feature.

You guys wonder why people buy pre-configured drives? You make this very difficult, I cannot for the life of me find any guides on where to begin beyond basic setup and no one will answer my questions.

Main question - If I do manage to get everything setup correctly do I still need to map my controller for each individual emulator or is it just a one time setup in HLHQ? I have HLHQ installed but cannot for the life of me figure out how to map the controls nor can I find any guides or info here or on hyperlaunch.net to guide me??

I don't think you are being very fair. We all started from scratch once upon a time.... Once you get a few systems setup things just click and it is quite simple to set up further systems.

There are plenty of how to guides for specific systems.

In answer to your question.... Yes you need to setup your controls for each emulator as they are all different.

No biggy...
