Dime333 Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 What's a FTP folder mate. Was hoping to find a zip folder with all XML if that's possible Had a few go missing if my computer If you're a member here, you can access the hyperspin FTP. If you're not, I don't know where you cn get them.
Beardedgamer23 Posted March 11, 2015 Author Posted March 11, 2015 When you say member u mean in as paid member?
Fromlostdays Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 Yep. You need a platinum membership now to access to the FTP. The FTP is a file transfer protocol (you download a program like filezilla put in some info, and when you connect you'll have access to more stuff than you'll know what to do with and easy download). If not, you can write the xmls yourself or try and use a xml generator. Don's tools is a good one, but you can also use Hyperlaunch now to generate xmls. Depending on how ambitious you are, you should certainly considering donating to this site, and others (emumovies, hyperlaunch). It'll make your life a thousand times easier. Having said that, you're going to wind up learning how to do these things yourself anyway if you spend any time on your setup. May as well start learning now. Walter:beerglass:
Beardedgamer23 Posted March 11, 2015 Author Posted March 11, 2015 I am going to become a platinum member! After buying a system with hyperspin set up I'm now In the process off building another pc and doing this myself as I'm getting more interested in doing it from scratch set to what I want how I want it etc Being a total noob at the moment what u recommended is a must for me. Does this give me access to all artwork etc
Fromlostdays Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 HyperSpin is the front end. It is what displays your artwork, videos, and game lists. (Note here that by itself it does not launch emulators. Its has the functionality, but its really basic) A platinum membership will give you access to: -The Gold Member Forums. (Forum rules slightly more lax) -HyperSync (This is a program that will automatically sync official artwork directly into your media folder. Really the end all be all for beginners, many systems have a lot of official artwork.) -The HyperSpin FTP (This is where most of us store individual projects, artwork, xmls, and other stuff that we're working on. There's a lot of official xmls and artwork there too. This is where you're going to go down the line when you inevitably find yourself addicted to setting up obscure systems. It seems like a long way away at the start, but setting everything up is easier than ever) HyperLaunch has recently split from Hyperspin in order to support multiple front ends. It is the back end program. (This handles the actual launching of emulators and allows you to do an incredible amount of stuff to the launch (fade in art work, bezels, keymapping, fade out, full screen/windowed, custom resolutions) the list goes on. HyperLaunch membership is free but accepts donations which you should consider because the team is amazing and does amazing work. You get the satisfaction of having helped this awesome hobby when you donate. At very least you want to head to Hyperlaunch.net and register. (The forum there is more geared to the technical stuff) Emumovies is a site dedicated to making videos for games. Pretty much all of the intro videos come from emumovies, and you should consider getting a monthly, yearly, or lifetime sub there. Any of these subscriptions will allow you to use the above mentioned hypersync to not only download all the artwork, but also download the intro videos for your games automatically. Not only will this save you time, but it will just allow you to focus on the back ending (launching, keymapping) instead of downloading bits and pieces of video collections and artwork. It will also give you access to the Emumovies folder FTP where some unofficial video sets can be found. Also, pretty much everyone here loves doing this, and all three forums are filled with people who are happy to help and generally shoot the shit about emulation. I'm sorry you bought a premade, but unlike some I'll just be honest with you. The only thing you want to keep out of that is the media folder and the games. Redo/redownload/reset up everything else including emulators and databases. I PROMISE you it will save you time in the long run. Everything on those drives is out of date, buggy, and because the people buying them don't know what to do with them, they can't really troubleshoot issues. Plus, they are more expensive right off the bat than subbing/donating directly to the people and sites listed above who are doing the work to make this all happen. The last thing I'm going to say is that these are ongoing communities of people who put in work for free and usually offer the fruits of their labor to everyone else. However, generally, the more popular a system, the more stuff it will have available for it. Any system too current, or too obscure, is not officially supported by Hyperspin. However, people do work on them and it will usually take some digging around to set them up. The good news is that HyperLaunch, the back end, can be used pretty easily for much more than it officially supports. So if you're interested you'll have a lot of fun messing around with this stuff.
