Chaos2099
Hello all, I am about to start a large build, and will be needing to run ps2/gc/wii, any top end emulators on high settings. I have currently compiled this part list, if you all have any suggestions, I appreciate your construction. AMD FX-6300 Vishera 6-Core 3.5GHz (4.1GHz Turbo) Socket AM3+ 95W FD6300WMHKBOX Desktop Processor - 125$ ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0 AM3+ AMD 970 + SB950 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS - 90$ G.SKILL Ripjaws Z Series 16GB (4 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) Desktop Memory Model F3-14900CL8Q-16GBZM - 160$ GIGABYTE GV-N960G1 GAMING-2GD GeForce GTX 960 2GB 128-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 HDCP Ready SLI Support ATX Video Card - 270$ Mushkin Enhanced ECO2 MKNSSDEC60GB 2.5" 60GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) - 50$ EVGA 110-B2-0850-V1 850W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE - 115$ Rosewill CHALLENGER - Black Gaming ATX Mid Tower Computer Case(Of course the case will be dropped once everything goes into cabinet) - 50$ I will mention, I am picking up a pre loaded 10tb hyperspin package from someone down state side. I had other questions about button and joystick layouts.. Though I am sure I may be in the wrong section... If not, I was thinking something like this With this, I am wanting to make a 4 player set up. Without huge knowledge yet(Skillful though), I plan on 4 UltraStiks with 360 Rotary upgrades, 4 top-fire button mods, 4 rgb stick mods. All buttons and lighting will be RGB, I have yet to fully research everything in terms of controllers/software. I want a trackball(RGB)(Do you guys use these for a mouse at times?), possibly a spinner. After watching them in use to see what you guys may use them for. I want some input in any shape here. U-HID G three axis gps unit to mimic a set up seen on youtube(You could say a lot of my inspiration has come from this video for my controls/lighting), for pinball controls. I will be picking up a g27 set up as well(Video featured a g25).. I want to make the all in one. The Cabinet itself will end up being a showcase unit. Not sure on the screen yet. Lets push the limits people. I am pretty sure I am in the right spot for this thread but if not, I apologize, please move it. Thank you.
jcrowley30
I would say you have some overkill on your build. You really only need 8GB RAM and the Power Supply doesn't need to be 850W. I am unfamiliar with your SSD so I cant comment on that. I also upgraded your GPU which was a fine choice but I was able to find one in a higher tier for around the same price. I put together a similar build which with your case comes to $750. Chaos2099
Amazing. Thank you, I wasn't sure if more memory would come in handy or not.
jonnieboyrevel
If you are wanting to run Gamecube and Wii, I'm assuming you're looking at Dolphin. As far as I understand it, Dolphin only uses 2 cores. You'll end up with 4 cores that are only running background apps. It's also generally stated that Intel CPUs are far better at running Dolphin than AMD due to single core clock speed. There are numerous threads about that discuss this, a couple of examples https://forums.dolphin-emu.org/Thread-amd-or-intel-cpu https://dolphin-emu.org/docs/faq/ I've always been an Intel guy though, so haven't done any real world testing... Chaos2099
I am having my full set up sent to me, I will surely be in and out of the file system once I receive it. I will look at Dolphin tonight and get up to speed there, thanks. This would require me to swap out just the cpu for an Intel? Are you speaking of an i3? Maybe a 4330? On the other hand, does anything benefit from more cores?
jonnieboyrevel
As far as I know, the majority of emulators won't benefit from more cores. I don't claim to be an expert though. I'm sure an i3 would be fine, i5 if you can fit it in the budget somehow...
kurtcd
Have you thought about a Pentium G3258 for the CPU? It has some great single-core performance that is on par with some of the real high end chips for Dolphin performance. It is unlocked too, so you can always overclock. Routinely has been on sale as a combo with a mobo for like $90.
