Like the title say, hyperspin load mess, games run fine but i cant control it, it´s like the creativision playing herself.

Running only the emulator the TAB key works, i configure all the inputs but when i load it don´t work.

Setup this today myself and found same issue. Games load 100%, but even though controls appear to be set correctly it auto plays. Maybe there is a special "Start" button that Creativision must have set vs the standard P1 Start? Anyone have any ideas?

Hello, I'm the webmster of the CreatiVEmu website.

The answer to your problem is written in each and every CreatiVision game manual hehe :-)

The CV games start in "demo mode". When you then press the RESET button on the real console (I suppose it's F3 on MESS, not sure...), the game enters in "select mode".

You select which game mode by pressing any of the "player's button" (P1-B1, P1-B2, P2-B1, P2-B2)

Then you can start the game by pressing any key on keyboard. Typically keys 1-9 and a-z, except the 1st row of keys (1QAZ). Not sure if you can do that on an arcade cabinet. I suppose you could start by pressing "2UP" button on a cabinet, which is supposed to be mapped like the "2" key on keyboard.

You can find some use in the the "keyboard.gif" image, included in the "FunnyMu Unofficial by MADrigal" archive.

If you need help, please visit the CreatiVEmu website, where you'll find all manuals, etc. Or drop me an email, I'll do my best to help :)

This has nothing to do with MESS's UI. I am running into the same issue, I cannot even configure controls because the tab key does not work on the actual driver.

I think there is something wrong with it.

i am not very familiar with the Mess interface. Not sure what's the TAB key for.

On a REAL console

1. boot -> CreatiVision logo displays -> enters in "demo mode" -> you see the game playing by itself

2. you press the "Reset" button -> enters in "select game mode"

3. you press any FIRE button on any joystick -> you select the desired game mode, difficulty etc.

4. you press almost any KEY on the keyboard -> the game begins

On MESS-UI

1. start the CreatiVision driver

2. mount a game ROM

3. do a "soft reset" -> that's enter "select mode"

4. select game mode, for example with CONTROL or SHIFT keys

5. start by pressing almost any key on keyboard, for example F, R, J, etc...

Ok, figured it out.

It has to do with MESS's keyboard emulation. When a game gets started in the CreatiVision driver, MESS essentially turns your keyboard into the Creativision one, you can toggle it off so you can gain access to the ui menu's and configure controls by pressing the scroll lock key. Upon doing that it says "keyboard emulation disabled". When you are done screwing around in the ui press scroll lock key again to reactivate keyboard emulation.

But yes it's like you said, once the game is loaded, press the reset key and with your player1 button 1 or 2 select which game mode you want then press a on the keyboard to start the game.

Djvj should document this in the MESS module as most people would not know how to disable Mess'S keyboard emulation.

Oh, you have a great site there by the way. The manuals are useful with HyperPause:).

added the info regarding how to start a game to my bezel

There's a mistake on the bezel.

"Press F3" -> correct, that lets the console enter in "Select game mode".

"Press P1" -> wrong! If you press P1, you will change the game mode from 1 to 2. The 2nd game mode is usually for 2 players. So I would change into "select game with any fire buttons"

"Press any number" -> wrong! It's not a matter of "pressing any number". Number 1 won't work! :)

You can press any key on the keyboard BUT the ones on the leftmost and rightmost side of a CreatiVision keyboard. This means that you can't use 1, CONTROL, SHIFT and DELETE (or back-tab) on the left side + SPACE, RETURN, RIGHT-TAB and EQUALS on the right side.

The CONTROL, SHIFT, SPACE and EQUALS keys are mapped in the same way as the joystick buttons, so they will obviously work like "change game mode". The remaining keys are disabled and won't let you start a game

So I suggest you to change your bezel into "press any LETTER KEY" as opposed to "any number". :)

Speaking of Sonic Invader, and every other game. I suggest you to download the game manuals from my website (CreatiVEmu) -> releases/software -> click on the game you are interested in -> download the manual in PDF format.

Every game has 1-32 game variations, including cool 2-player versus modes, so you should always have the reference manual to choose the desired game mode.

Sonic Invader and Crazy Chicky and Crazy Pucker have very fun 2-players versus and cooperative modes. You must try them, very fun! :)
