The HyperSpin 2 early access beta is here!

We’re starting the first public testing phase with Platinum Members to keep the scope manageable while we test the current feature set and begin to add more. In the future, we’ll provide a version for basic members as well.  On behalf of the entire HyperSpin team, we look forward to another exciting adventure with our community.

Hello fellow Hyperspinners,

It has been over 10 years since I messed around with Mame.  Well Hyperspin FE alone has caught my attention to build another cab for my two kiddos.   I was one of the guys that was about to purchase a $350 pre-configured hyperspin hdd because there was so much conflicting information on how to install it.   Then I ran into Simply Austin recent youtube videos and I am here back on the scene.  It feels much better to spend that money on membership here, on emumovies and the scene for support.  Plus the satisfaction that I did it on my own!!

Well, back to my question....I have managed to to setup Hyperspin with Mame and its running perfect, but how do I add a game to my Mame Wheel?  The game plays fine under Mameuifx, but it doenst show on my wheel.

Thank you for helping out in advance.

:)

cdavila74,

If only one or a few entries, you can edit the MAME.xml manually.

Just in case, make a backup of your original MAME.xml and save it to another location. Open the HyperSpin\Databases\MAME\MAME.xml file in a text editor. Notepad will work. Scroll down into the XML entries until you find the place where you want to list the added game. Usually listed alphabetically so it's easier to find, but its your choice. Copy an entry similar to the one you want to add and paste that entry into the order that you chose. For example:

</game><-----------Place your cursor before the green arrow, left mouse click/hold and select the entry below.
    <game name="pacman" index="" image="">
        <description>Pac-Man (Midway)</description>
        <cloneof>puckman</cloneof>
        <crc></crc>
        <manufacturer>Namco (Midway license)</manufacturer>
        <year>1980</year>
        <genre>Maze</genre>
        <rating>AAMA - Green (Suitable For All Ages)</rating>
        <enabled>Yes</enabled>
</game><------End select text before the green arrow. Copy the text and paste it in the order you chose.

Do this on your XML so you don't copy my green info text. If placed correctly, the tabbing of your pasted text should match the rest of the XML. If not, undo and try again.

Replace the information in your pasted entry with that of the rom you want to add. Rom/game name, description, and clone of information is particularly important to get right. Don't forget to add your new rom to your "Roms" folder. Save your changes , make sure your edited XML is in the proper database folder. Start HyperSpin and check that it is listed and working.

Note: Your folder names and XML may be named differently than listed above. Adjust them as necessary. Also, rom names with special characters such as "&" and apostrophes cause trouble with the way the XML is read. Games with these special characters have to be entered in a specific manner. Statistically/hopefully the game you want to add won't have special characters and my advice will be of help to you.

wait wait wait wait, have you added wheels to your mame folder? do not edit the mame.xml to add or remove games. they are all in the xml. if it doesn't show up its a setting in your HyperHQ or missing art 9 out of 10 times

Or they are using a newer version of MAME with an older database...

just wanted to add that to my post

so a few questions:

Which MAME version are you running?

Which Database version do you have?

Do you have wheels in MAME folder?

Glad I got you mate before you dropped a bomb on one of those drives.

If you followed the Tutorial you will have MAME 153 or 159?

All you need is a set of Roms and everything should be fine :)  If you got the Membership just follow the HyperSync vid and as long as you got the right set for the right emu you should have 100's of games good to go mate.  Give me a shout if you gots troubles :)

Sorry Sub-Zero, didn't mean to step on any toes or cause harm. I assume you were thinking he was using a wheel filter in HyperHQ?

With all the non-working, fruit machine, parent/clone/clones-to-keep, adult, prototype, etc., for me the wheel filters are not enough so I do not use them, especially in MAME. The lack of artwork doesn't keep a game entry from appearing on my wheel, although adding or removing from the XML does. So I didn't even consider artwork as a factor.

From his post, I assumed he was just trying to add one or a limited number of games and after considering the rabbit hole that Don's HyperTools can be, I opted for what I hoped was a workable lesser of evils, AKA editing the XML. Hoped my suggestion to back up was enough to prevent permanent harm.

Apologies again. Just trying to help during this transition.

Just getting back to this....

Okay, Yes I am running Mame through Hyperspin perfectly.  I followed Austin's video to a tee, but except that my system is not 64bit.

I downloaded and installed Jumspstyles MameUifx32 151 and his 151 Mame Database since my roms are that version.

I have themes, video, art all going except that when I showed wifey my Hyperspin achievement, she asked for PacMan and it wasn't on my Mame Wheel unless I uncheck Parents Roms only in HyperHQ.

So im still confused on how to add a game that is a clone.  I do not want to see same multiple games on my Mame wheel.

I'll wait for feedback as I don't want to mess up my settings.

Circo your comment made so much sense and I went into HyperHQ and selected "Theme only"  and BAM!!!  everything is perfect now.

Thank you all the awesome comments.

Now onto to Simply Austin's other videos.
