Husky0628 Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 Hello all, I've gotten my Hyperspin setup almost done. My problem is Retroarch for Nintendo 64. I use xpadder for all the other systems. It has been easy to setup and they're complete and work. I can't for the life of me (3 days now scouring the internet for answers) figure out the key bindings for Retroarch. I would like to figure out how to change the keyboard bindings to use xpadder so I can use different controllers if I choose (Xbox 360 and nin64 controllers). I just can't figure out how to do it. I'm not sure how to setup escape keys to go back into Hyperspin or Hyperpause. If necessary, I can change those keys in the other emulators to match Retroarch. I'm lost and frustrated at this point on what to do. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! :-)
iNTiGOD Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 If you want to change to keyboard keys in retroarch make sure you you have it set to "Retrokeyboard" instead of "Retropad." To do this, go to settings/input and find the line that says Bind Mode. You can bind all your keys, or change them directly in the config. If you want to setup exit keys I would use rocketlauncher if thats what you're using to launch your emulators. MAME High Score Tutorial For HyperSpin
newoski Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 My best tip for mapping RetroArch is to: 1. Save your core config. - IE nestopia_libretro.cfg 2. Open the config file in RetroArch Phoenix 3. Go into the input menu 4. Clear ALL inputs. - This will prevent any system functions from conflicting with your game input mappings 5. Re-open RetroArch and launch a game from the the system you're working on - It should load the core config file 6. Remap the keyboard inputs using iNTiGOD's instructions about RetroKeyboard 7. Save your config file again 8. Manually rename it to match the HyperSpin system name so that HyperLaunch loads it for that system
Fromlostdays Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 Onto the multiple controllers front... say I have a logitech, 360 controller, and a wii pro. I bind all the keys to the keyboard in Retroarch. Open xpadder. Is it possible that xpadder will automatically detect which controller is plugged in and allow me to switch between those three mid emulation? Like I can I bind all three controllers and retroarch automatically use the one that is plugged in? Alternately, can I bind more than one controller from within retroarch itself? Thanks, Walter:beerglass:

Thanks, Yes, more or less. I'm not sure if xpadder 100% supports every joystick/controller ever... but it works perfectly with XBOX 360 Wireless. Plug it in, recognizes it, loads the appropriate profile when you launch a game... so long as you set that up in HyperLaunch Regarding switching mid-game, this gets a bit gray. In my experience, xpadder only loads a profile when the controller is turned on/active. I've never tested switching controllers mid-game, but I've tested starting with my 360 controller turned off... launching the game, playing the game... and then PAUSING the game via HyperPause. At this point, xpadder loads my HyperLaunch profile -- this is crucial -- then once I exit the game, it will switch "back" (actually loading it for the first time during this game play) the system/game profile. Confusing, but works
Husky0628 Posted May 8, 2015 Author Posted May 8, 2015 Thanks guys,I will try out tonight and see how it goes :-)
Husky0628 Posted May 11, 2015 Author Posted May 11, 2015 Well, I've been trying to figure it out following newoski's steps and maybe I'm retarded but I'm not getting it to work. I open the mupen64plus_libretro in RetroArch Phoenix. I go to settings/input controls. I set it to Retrokeyboard. I go to the keys and and clear them all out (Except up, down, left, right, z and x cause it won't let me control anything if I do). I hit save configuration and it makes anther config file mupen64plus_libretro-1. However, when I reopen RetroArch, it's like it didn't save anything. Sorry if it's something simple I'm just not getting. I've been trying a week now to get this to work :-)
newoski Posted May 30, 2015 Posted May 30, 2015 Are you renaming the config to match the system name?
